28 for me at strike! That gives me plenty of leeway if we need to put the heat on a fish!

just fish it at sunset with 45lbs and let it pull your boat around

I hope you plan on beefing up your rod holders for the big gun.You at least need a good backing plate.

40lbs of heat on a bent butt 80 will rip out most small boat rod holders

27-28 LBS at the button. Why any less on an 80? Any more is up to what the angler can handle.

Run tape next to the lever and mark it. You can also go off of the letters on the word strike, but in the dark, and if you have someone on the rod that is not use to it it can be difficult. Put 25 at half way you should get 40-45 at the button. I have Penns but I have done the Shimano' the same way. Keep your eye on free spool because you can lose it. The reels can handle serious drag and you might as be able to use it ALL if you ever want to.
You don't have to go the button unless you want to. It gets really fun when you go past the button.
Like Eric said beef up your rod holders. I use 3/16th aluminum top and bottom. It works great. Depending on what rod holders you have you might bend the rodholder.

Agree backing plate is a good idea for when you have to utilize "rodney"

It is stand up, but if i fish slames the rod and takes off for bimini, and you throw it into strike, I don't want it moving! I still set the hook persay, in the rod holder!

Please don't use words like "persay". You are scaring me.

Don't use wood screws on the holder
Through bolt it with a backing plate.
