Default 50# hollow core spectra? any such thing?

any compaines make a 50lb hollow core spectra line? looking for a little more line to put on some of my small reels.

i guess i could do a bunch of solid 50# spectra to a few yards of hollow 80# and then connect that to my wind on. but it would be nice just to run 50# all the way to the wind on of 100lbs.

Alohas!

Robbie.

Default Are you avoiding the loop to loop option?

Hey Robbie:

From your description here, it looks like you like to splice the mono straight into the core of the spectra, and glue intercoonect, I suspect.

What are the reasons you are preffering this over the loop to loop connection if you are using an off the shelf wind-on leader?

Or perhaps you are using bulk mono that does not have specctra loop already attached.

Curious to know since I had some related questions on another thread: but that was 80 lb. mono connecting to 250 lb. wind-on.

Thanks, RiskTaker

it would be a straight splice in. i like them for the cosmetic purpose and most importantly no knotes. also its not an off the shelf wind on. i would be making them myself.

i would spool it with 50# hollow spectra (if it exists). and then run my wind on straight in to that. however i am not sure what pound mono the 50# hollow spectra will acomadate.

another option is to spool the reel with solid 50# spectra and then use about 10-15ft of hollow 80# spectra to splice the 150lb wind-on to the 50# solid core spectra.

now if you wanted a top shot, you could pack on 50# solid spectra, and use the 80# hollow core, to splice that into a 80lb mono top shoot, and run a loop to loop conection to your wind on, or get really creative and and splice in your wind-on and top shot together with some 80# or 100# hollow core spectra. you would eliminate the first double connections if thier was such a thing as 50# hollow core spectra. however when your top shoot gets tired, it will be alot of work to put new ones on! the loop to loop wil save you alot of time setting your rods up.

loops to loops are fine, however after some abuse the loop end on the mono looke a little brittle. i have never had one break or heard of one breaking (i am sure some one has though), but i would like to eliminate that kind of connection.

once the mono gets tired just simply cut it off before the splice and splice in a new pice of mono and pack it on the spool. then figure out if you want a loop to loop or if you have the paitence splice it to the wind on.

did i make any sence :?: it looks like babble to me! time to have a beer :!:

Alohas!

Line One does make a 50lb hollow line, but the reality is you cannot get any sort of tool into it to make a splice. The 80lb hollow is a better way to go.

Default Robbie, out of context here but start a new thread.

Robbie:

Just as an aside to this thread topic, please provide details on how you set up your logo as an avatar. (It is cool.) From what I understand, your need to provide a legitimate link to an http: ... location, or it needs to be already established on SFC.

Sorry, even though I have the potential to make my own website by way of my ISP, pre-paid, without establishing a custom domain, I simply have not focused enough, to link my own preferred "graphics image" as my avatar.

P.S. - Adm. Mike - If you want to use the SESC Avatar as a choice, how do you do it?

Ciao for now, RiskTaker

Default Thx, MikeG. Fast Response.

Thanks Adm. Mike:

I see your immediate response and update to my own avatar.

This new logo for SESC looks very contemporary, I suspect, a Bobby Boyle original donated to the local Club?

Sorry, again, off the intended topic thread. But it HAPPENS!
