Default Hollywood Swordfish Get-Together

I'm going to have to postpone the 1st Hollywood Swordfish Get-Together,
planned for Oct 13th. SORRY but something very important came up at
work and I will not be able to get everything together on friday as
planned. Given my present schedule, it will have to be in November.
cheers, arthur

Thanks ProfessorO:

Things are very active on my schedule too: that Saturday had big plans so I am glad the Friday evening is not scheduled.

I went to visit my neighbor last night, as the girls were starting to stack up at my house: I did not realize there were any plans. So I left the "gypsies in the palace", took the kids and the dog for a walk, to see how Capt. Andy is making out with his Custom Rod building ...
I was amazed how he had so many comparative manufactured goods from China/offshore. When compared side by side, you can see some real crap out there: this stuff is made for you and me, so buyer beware. Actually, I feel sorry for anybody that buys inexpensive offshore tackle because it is total garbage.

If you don't believe me ask Capt. Andy. I suggested that he actually retain the inferior specimens, not to build with "Heaven Forbid"", rather than to part with the crap, by E-bay. It is probably a better investment to educate the customer on what quality components actually are. And having a comparable sample set really drives the point home. He showed me quality components and inferiors side by side. Don't even get me started about the rod blanks: there are some good ones out there and the rest go "snap", it rhymns with crap. I am really starting to despise Chinese made goods.... Well enough venting with the inferior side of things; how about some superior.

So Capt. Andy wanted to know how I build my wind-on leaders? Well that was starting to sound like a plan. We made the appropriate suggestions and Capt. Andy's girl, Norma made trails for my place to meet up with the rest of the girls, and took all of the kids with her. So we still had the dogs, the stash of rum (RZC) and OJ along with the Churrasco skirt steaks. We kept along the fishing chit-chat for a little while until we realized, in shock, , there was no more ICE in the house. (Deep freezer empty too. ) That was when my recommendation came in that there should always be at least a block in the freezer. The game plan shifted rapidly after that point to rejoin the girls at my favorite haunt.

Besides, that was where I had my wind-on leader supplies stashed, plus copious amounts of ice, attractive women, more rum and other miscellaneous provisions. Not a bad "hold-out" on a beautiful big moon Friday night.

We cooked up some delicious, Cheese steak sandwiches made from the Churrasco, onions and special cheeses. The girls (the adult ones) were happy with their oversized wine Goblets filled with Vino tinto. Somehow they just cherish the opportunities when their mans are willing to cook for them while they can kick back and relax.

Later at night, I pulled out the supplies from the tackle box and the wind-on box after that very satisfying dinner was done: not a bite of cheese steak left anywhere in the house.

So after I showed Capt. Andy how the double walled spliced loop is started, we left the girls to their own devices, and we went about our Manly business, of piddlin' with threads and needles and wrapping serves.

Needles to say and to make a long story short, we practiced making a couple wind-on leaders last night. I have one more ready for use and have at least practiced on one recently. So whenever you have your party at least I know that I remember how to do it. I also have samples (that I will remember to bring along) of other "commercially produced" wind-ons as comparative samples. Imagine that.
