Default Jumpin In

Ok. Ive been lurking around long enough. I'm gonna jump in here. \/

Theres been alot of strings lately about conservation - man, I sure do wish there was more strings about catchin swordfish, but I know its been slow out there.

My opinion is that LLs must never be allowed back into the nursery, (or back into the fringes either for that matter).

As a matter of fact, LLs should be outlawed in US waters completely. They kill so many fish that slow reproducing species cant keep up with them. Commercial interests are shooting themselves in the foot for not realizing this.

Recovered stocks? Did I read someone recently who said that they thought sword stocks were 94% recovered? When was the last time anyone saw or heard of a really big sword - (over 500lbs or so) - caught here or anywhere in US waters? Cause it USED to happen consistently, (I've read anyway). Where's all those big breeders now? Did they swim off to safe waters around Boingo Boingo or something?

Bouy gear? I dunno - looks alot like LL gear to me. 35 bouys - 2 hooks each - 70 hooks per boat? WOW. Maybe commercial guys in the closed zones should be restricted to rod and reel like everyone else - or even prevented from fishing the zones completely, or at least limited to 3 legal sized fish per boat like the rec. guys are. - (sorry Ollie and all other comm. guys here - just my opinion).

Bugman/Rod Chucker/Rollin/MMman ect.
Welcome, nothing like another first post with attitude. whatever your opinion is.
I have a feeling you might start some $hit again with this one, but most are burned out on the topic, and it's tournament weekend.
Catchem up, fill that quota :thumleft:

1. When you hear % that is of "sustainable stock" look it up if you don't know what it meens. Not full recovery.

2. 400-500-600+ LB. fish are caught here every year, but not many. A few more years without LLing and I think it will become a monthly event.

3. The buoy gear guys that I know of find it very difficult to fish more than 10-15 sets, usually fishing less than 10. Even though it is legal for them to fish 35. (Correct me if I'm wrong Ollie, you know 1st hand)

i dont know what you mean NF, but thanks for the credits.

i looked for sustainable stock definitions when it comes to HMS and didnt find anything educational. what does it mean - or can you direct me to a site somewhere that explains it? :?:

i have heard of a few large fish, but it doesnt seem to happen often enough. i guess you could count some of the dumping 80s stories ive seen here - but those could also have been some big-a$$ makos too, right?

i have also heard that they dont usually fish more than 10 bouys. Is that because of the difficulty in handling the gear or is it some other reason? Seems to me if i was comm. i'd fish as many lines as i was allowed, if i could pull it off.

i'd be curious to know about how many swords are being caught out here by these bouy set ups - anyone care to share that info? seriously, if the number was iincreasing without an increase in hooks in the water - it might be a good thing.
