OK, not posting a picture of a huge sword. But I did loose a sea monster this weekend due to knot failure. Went 1 for 2, with a 150+ in the boat. 2nd fish, which was Huge, was lost with the spectra parting at the top-shot connection.

Here's my question:

What is the favored knot connection for top-shot to spectra. All reels are spooled with spectra and would like to still use the spectra. I know the real deal is the Jerry Brown, but for the folks that don't have it or aren't willing to throw down. What is the best way you've found to connect spectra to mono? Uni to Uni knot? Bimini to Bimini, via loop knot? Any other meathods better? Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks,
Capt. T

Try A bimini on the spectra end then tie a yucatan with the mono end. Test that one out.

Hannaman,

I use that Yucatan knot religiously on everything, worried that the spectra will cut into the mono. Sure it will hold up solid, but still could create a weak spot in the rig.

Good friend gssk7179 tied this longline Japanese Knot that slides though to guides very easily and held up on several large swords. This knot isn't published and can't be found on the internet. The knot worked great until we put the wood to em, and the spectra broke at the knot.

Keep an eye out for a slob with a Disco attached.

Dont get that knot, but I have done an extended version of an albright with about 30 wraps which has never pulled out, jerry brown all the way.

Elias at crook and crook showed me the knot, I cannot take credit for it.
