I'm telling you mane, we just need to fish more. I'm pretty sure our lights are fine because it's a combo of what everyone else does. If we fished more we would get more fish and bigger ones, like the saying ''your not going to catch anything from the couch!''

Exactly... It's a big ocean. The lights are merely a way to hopefully spark the interest of a passing fish. Any advantage we can add to our baits is to our benefit. Yes, they'll bite a dark bait... but for the 6 hours you may have a hook in the water, don't you wanna do everything you can to get that slob to bite? I'm fishing with chicken wings this weekend!

Can the light be too close or too far from the bait to be effective. Our biggest fish (70") we had the LP 12 - 15 feet from the bait. Recently we have been catching a bunch of small fish, with the light 20 - 30 feet away. I like the light where it is now, and think we are just waiting for the right one to come along.

Nightfighter, that is too funny Boom I got your girlfriend Aha I got your girl I have also heard the theory that squid "luminesce" when feeding, and actually glow / give off light.

Paul, different colors can be placed closer or farther depending on the color. The farther the light is to the left off the color spectrum, the farther. Those are your uv lights, purple, blue indigio. Green is mid, and your red yellow orange lights can be put closer.

I've tried the light both close and far. I decided to fish the light 30'-50' away from the bait. I too think that the light is not necessary, but gets the attention of passers by. It also attracts baitfish and squid. If the light is too close those same squid and baitfish will chew up your baits.

Has anyone ever tried a white light? If so did it produce? I have some of all the colors and came by a white light, but have not put it out yet.

Using a Swordlite / Hydroglow at the boat along with a chumbag was a big bonus for me on my last trip. We went 0-1 on the swordfish, but we nailed 5 dolphin 15-20lbs each ! The Dolphin were cruising around the boat and making attack runs into the light to jump the bait fish that were hanging in the chum line. Kind of like a Snook jumping some bait under the dock lights. It kicked off a 20 minute dolphin rodeo with hooked fish jumping all over the place (and around a few of my sword lines
). We took our time and bagged every dolphin that came into the spread, they showed no interest in leaving the area. Why would they when the bait is in the light right in front of them. Easy pickin's for the dolphin, and easy picken's for us ! Apparently those green and blue pigs will feed 24 hrs a day. Remember to put the light and chumbag on the OTHERSIDE of the boat from the sword lines.
