Default light distance

At what distance should I put my lights away from the bait? What do you think the optimum distance is and why? Any theories or personal opinions would be nice.

This isnt really a big deal, but if we are fishing a 25 foot leader, we usually put the light at the swivel which is 25 feet.. Sometimes on dark nights we will put a glowstick closer to the bait...

Good Luck
