I know this has been talked about a few times, but what is the best way to treat swordfish bills before they are painted, clear coated etc. I have some in my freezer taking up space that I would like to do something with. I have heard everything from saltwater to bleach but I want to do it right. Any tips are greatly appreciated.
Thanks! |

Thats really what you need to do is throw them off your dock and let them soak for a few weeks. After they have been in the water for a few days pull them out and wash some of the slime and meat away after that its just a matter of time. The more current the quicker they will cure. Once out of the water you can soak them in bleach/ soap mixture for a day to get rid of any leftover smell.

I put mine in my buddies pool  It is drained except for about a foot of nasty water :???: and has all kinds of things living in it only takes a week or two and they are ready for the bleach.

well for all the different ways you guys say to cure bills I hav found another method that works betterand faster than all. I will prob be hung for telling you guys but who cares. My buddy Aaron did a little reasearch and found a chemical (KOH) Potassium Hydroxide (Caustic Potash). Add water and watch everything melt right off the bone. You need about 2 lbs for 8-15 gallons and when it is diluted with water it makes a great fingaside for the garden. Its also used to staralize stuff. DO NOT get it on you or you have a huge problem. I recomend getting a good pair of chemical gloves and keep it in a well ventilated area away from pets and kids. just in case you spill it flush area with lots of fresh water and you might escape with some small chemical burns. I cure them in a 30 gallon garbage can fits about 20 fresh bills mabye 2 sessions are needed.
