Default Bills?????

I know this has been talked about a few times, but what is the best way to treat swordfish bills before they are painted, clear coated etc. I have some in my freezer taking up space that I would like to do something with. I have heard everything from saltwater to bleach but I want to do it right. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

They are sawed off in the freezer. They stay fresh that way until you do something with them, although it doesn't make much of a display in there.

Thats really what you need to do is throw them off your dock and let them soak for a few weeks. After they have been in the water for a few days pull them out and wash some of the slime and meat away after that its just a matter of time. The more current the quicker they will cure. Once out of the water you can soak them in bleach/ soap mixture for a day to get rid of any leftover smell.

I can treat and paint bills now...not as good as Bobby. There is one I did in the bill gallery. I'm painting one right now of our boat Final Point so we'll see how that turns out. If anyone doesn't wanna pay the price of a Tiagra 80 let me know...

Default My way works best

well for all the different ways you guys say to cure bills I hav found another method that works betterand faster than all. I will prob be hung for telling you guys but who cares. My buddy Aaron did a little reasearch and found a chemical (KOH) Potassium Hydroxide (Caustic Potash). Add water and watch everything melt right off the bone. You need about 2 lbs for 8-15 gallons and when it is diluted with water it makes a great fingaside for the garden. Its also used to staralize stuff. DO NOT get it on you or you have a huge problem. I recomend getting a good pair of chemical gloves and keep it in a well ventilated area away from pets and kids. just in case you spill it flush area with lots of fresh water and you might escape with some small chemical burns. I cure them in a 30 gallon garbage can fits about 20 fresh bills mabye 2 sessions are needed.
