Albar:

I know it is fun to shop for new fishing stuff but do you think that you really need a brand new set of 4-6 80 Wides? Don't you want to at least get spooled first, before you re-arm with bigger stuff?

Well actually since you have a nice big boat, the 80 wides will match nicely. Ok you may as well just do it.

I just got a new rod and reel myself, but can only afford one at a time (and my lovely wife may have an adverse reaction if I don't go easy on the Boy toys.)

I did go for the 80-130 class rod, with the intention of an 80 wide or a 50 WLRSA. The LRSAs are sweet, so I know you are just going absolutely love your new toys. E-bay twisted my fate for the 50WLRSA: I think a good buy at $476 + $30 shipping, NIB.

All my other rods are 50-80 class with Aftco straight Uni-butt. So what I did this time was to get a Stor-a-butt style base. With this style you can detach the butt part where the reel stays attached to the rod, or could be detached oin that side too. I got an extra bent butt section so now, I can easily switch out the base to have the best of both worlds, bent or straight. I also go a swivel rod tip with this one.

The rational behind this was based upon the repeated observations that there is typically one awkward rod position while drifting for swordfish (typically the outrigger rod position, but not always). The swivel tip can swing to either side, so that line can peel cleanly off the roller tip even if the line is be pulled of to one side of the rod. And I can combine bent butt on that rod if I like to adjust the rod tip height, like for the "tip rods" and that provides more clearance from the balloon line rods.

I like the Stor-a-butt feature. Now I just wish I had done all of my rods like that, although one swivel tip in the set is enough, but I did not know any better when I started upgrading the stuff for the swordfishing gig.

Hey, let's go fishing. I know I can call you anytime but I prefer not to be so pesky. An invitation just makes you feel more special. I have been extremely busy in the past month, and don't let Tek try to convince you otherwise, but I should have some breathing room again in another week or so. RT

Jeff:

You are one fast shopper. Can you pick out new clothes just as fast?

I am happy for you.... Agua Regia will be "stylin" reel soon with the "good stuff".

But I think that you should designate Kenny to reel in the fish when that 80W is 3/4 of the way down.

Ya-Mon.
