Default I have got another ? for you East coasters

Do you find the fish to be on certain fathom curves and how are you locating fish? I worked a 1500 to 1300 hundred fathom curve last night with no real action.

HOLY CRAP thats deep. We fish in like 600 to 2500 feet here for the most part......Maybe try a little shallower. How far of a run is that for you on the west side?

Sorry it was 1300 to 1500 feet, on the 209 fathom spot. Its a 25 mile trek to that paticular bank.

Personally, I like "fishy water". Rips, bait, weeds.... near the area I would fish. But look at my track record.... 1 for 45  . I have a few buddies who fish water and not structure and do really good. Think it may depend on time of year too... not sure.

600-2000 does seem to be the prefered area though.

When you get a fish mark it right away.

We have a mark from someone else that produces every single time we are there

Fish the thermocline for sure, or the "bait ceiling"...

Ever notice with a big fish that you get them up to the rubberband for the balloon and can't get them to budge....that fish hit on the thermocline and doesn't want to leave it. Find it, and you should move most of your baits close to it. Some under, and some over...

As far as depth, it matters more where the bait is, plenty of swords have been caught with snappers in their gut. LL often set so shallow West of the closed limits that they catch king fish.

As far a fishing water vs structure, it depends on the time of year and which fish you are targeting, residential fish or travelers. Travelers hang on water, residential fish hang on structure, more travelers on the change of season....
