Yeah... 2-3ft with an 8-second period will feel like 2 or less.
NOAA's standard report is a consolidated "relative" forecast and averages that data over 12 hours. Buoyweather gives all the factors separately in 6-hour increments. The longer the wave (swell), the less your boat will be tossed around, and thus feel like calmer seas. As an approximate calculation, take a foot off the wave height at 8 seconds; take 1.5 ft off at 10 seconds; take 2-3 ft off at 12 seconds. This will give a better idea of how it will "feel" out there. |

I love your forecasts. Could you please inform the NOAA people to check with you before they issue theirs? Or you could tell them that the 1980's called and they said they need their majic 8 ball back.

They get their info from who?? I can't believe it! My call to go usually rests with conditions I saw on the water that day when I left....If I was out diving that day. Or, I check Fowey Rocks at the NDBC and I give the Ft. Lauderdale Beach cam a look. If its less than 20 knots and not out of the west or any of the northerly directions, its usually a go for me. In summer I also check the weather radars as well.
