Default Location of bites

As every one knows the fish can be caught in shallow or out deep. Like recently I have noticed to get more fish in shallow. I have also noticed that when I get the fish shallow the wall of the gulf stream has been in close to shore. Does anyone have any input on when to start a shallow drift or to go deep. Time of year, moon phase or weather ( like a front moved down or has gone)

Eric,

Do not know if I am qualified to give advice yet only been out five times, but one thing I have noticed most of our bites happen within the first 30 minutes of setting up a spread. If we do not get hit on 45 minutes pick up and run to another location or do another drift or over the same location we started if we know we have had hits there before. It is not rocket science just need to get out and fish and figure out what is comfortable for you and your crew. I like 2 ft or less anytime We have caught or have had hits in different depths, moon phases, tides, wind direction, and gulfstream location. The only thing I have noticed is that the bite slows on a fuller moon but the fish are bigger which is fine with me

our crew was talking about this the other night. everytime you hear a FISH ON report, everyone steps on each other trying to ask the boat, "What line are you on?".

it didnt seem to matter that night, and i dont think it matters that much any other time. i, like you catchin, aint been doing this long enough to give any advise, just my observations. the other night the radio was quiet as a mouse, until the moon came up. not full, but close, and by the time it cleared the horizon i was hearing FISH ON all over the place - from the 49 to the 53.

i am gonna try swordfishin just outside the whistle bouy next really flat night - i'll let you guys know how it goes.

RC,

Have to agree with you as well. Think that would be some kind of record if you caught one off the Whistle Bouy :?:  Probally be a 1000 pounder just make sure it does not get wrapped up in that chain

Who knows where these fish are all the the time it is a big ocean :!:

Tight lines and see you on the dark side

as long as you are near the 50 and have a bait around 100, 200, and 300ft, your chances are just as good as the next guy.

I have been fishing a 400 foot bait on the bright nights with great success as of late.

BTW I fished the 52-53 line again on saturday night and we only had 1 bite.
