Default Shimano selling to LongLingers...

Heard an interesting piece of information from a captain while i was over in the bahamas. We were talking about reels and I of course was backin my shimanos and he told me that shimano, while they 'support conservation etc' are actually selling gear to longliners! Is this true?? Anyone got any info?

I'm a Penn man 100%, but I don't see anything wrong with Shamino selling to comercial fisherman.
LP is a huge longline supplier but I would not stop buying their mono or lights because of that. Most of the bait Co. sell to the commercial guys also.
What is the point you are trying to get at, I’m not sure I understand? Are you pissed at Shimano for selling to commercial fisherman?
Commercial use is the ultimate test of gear anyway.

Most of our gear and techniques are derived from the commercial guys. As QQ says below. :thumleft:

Most of the equipment and tackle we use was commercial gear at one time and much of it still is.Every time you are on the 50 drifting baits with lights your just a mini LL with rods and reels. We are just a little more selective on what we keep. To my knowledge even the mono crimp got its start as a commercial product. We have only slightly modified our fishing for swords from commercial techniques. If we had to do it the old fashion way we would only bait swords during the day.

the point i was TRYING to make was that APPARENTLY they were doing it behind closed doors, as in telling the public they are very against longlining and trying to be very supportive in conservation and then selling long line equipment and keeping it hush hush.

and no i dont think they are selling longliners 50Ws. thats not what i said

the reason i posted it on the forum was to see if other people were aware of this and to see if it is in fact accurate.

They are not doing anything behind closed doors.Get a copy of the National Fisherman and you will see ads that feature there products. No cloak and dagger stuff but unless your a commercial fisherman why would you know about what they sell to commercial fleets.I do not mean to jump back at your post but like the others said it does not matter. They do support Rec fishing and conservation while still selling to commercial fishing interest.99% of tackle companies do the same thing. All the best electronics started on comm boats.I will name a few companies for you,Ande line, mustad, momoi, simrad, taylor buoys,LP,sampo, sargent, dexter Russel, alot of boot companies and who could fish on an open boat without Grundens  123 I like you and your posts so do not get mad at this. But it really is a non issue just be glad they do support conservation at all Now if their is something they are doing that I do not know about and is a bad thing let me know and I will lead the angry mob myself

My point was Shimano has nothing to offer a longline fisherman as far as product. Even if they did they are entitled to make a buck like everyone else.
