Default Yes, just saw it in the Magazine this weekend

Thanks Ron:

Yes that was a nice writeup for Florida Sportsman on the recreational aspect of swordfshing. Hopefully, that article may raise awareness that it is important to not decimate, again, the swordfish supply off the SE Florida coast.

The reefs are suffering and are probably not the same tourist attraction as they once used to be as SCUBA attractions. Perhaps, the swordfishing aspect may be reserved as a tourist attraction and a sustainable resource for the recreational anglers.

If Longline activity resumes again, the favorable numbers will no longer attract the recreational anglers after just a few seasons. (Too many beeper buoys are just as bad.) So why not just keep it going strong as a successful tourist venue and a fun nightlife for the local recreational anglers.

Certainly the financial impact is beneficial to the local economy on a broader base.

With a few more seasons of rebound it may even be possible to catch more fish like the one Drew is holding. Hey, that looks just like the one in the article. Better go check it for yourself: Florida Sportsman, March 2006 - p. 144.

Ron, thanks again for the time and energy to make it known beyond the local swordfishing anglers. It is a very valid perspective that should not be overlooked nor ignored.

Hopefully with the closure staying in place we will continue to see a rebound of the fishery in the years to come. The economical impact the rec. group has on the local economy will also continue to grow in years to come, as long as the fishery stays strong.

Stay tight and report all fish.
