Default Defrosting a Flat of Squid?

How do I defrost a flat of squid without damaging the quality of the bait? Should I leave it in cold water or warm water?
I think the warm water would detiriorate the quality a bit?

Your thoughts are appreciated!

I've had the best luck by leaving it in a cooler for about 24 hours...

hmm i've never thought about this. when i go fishing they usually come out of the freezer for about an hour to rig and then into a bucket of iced saltwater.

If its scent im losing, so be it, those things smell bad enough!

any bait, put it in a cooler with lots and lots of ice + salt overnight or in the morning before your afternoon trip. Never use water to defrost.

I'm guessing you're defrosting the entire flat to re-freeze in smaller portions, or to rig, then freeze individual baits?

With squid, the color is the first thing to go. A very slow defrost, while still in the packaged flat, will retain the color and "flavor". So like Nick said, let 'em defrost in a cooler for 24 hours..

someone was listening to me once agian....yup put in cooler and pull them off just as quick as you can, they will still be pretty much frozen, but you can kinda peel them apart...you will know when they will come apart, but dont rip them to early
