Default Swordfishing central florida

i live in new smyrna just south of daytona. i was wondering if anyone does any swordfishing up in central and north florida because it seems most of you guys fish out of boca or south of there. if anyone has fished up here how far do you go out? last time i was out from what i remember we were about 45 miles out in about 600ft of water(thats not straight out that is north a bit, a place locals call "roll downs" which goes from 500 to over a 1000ft of water pretty quick). im guessing that wouldnt be a bad place to try sence its a big drop off. i know you guys kinda follow the 50 line down south, which line do you follow up here?

any info would help. ive never done any swordfishing and i doubt i will but if i ever convince a friend to give it a shot i want to have an idea where to go.

thanks Danny

You are REALLY far north, the Furthest North i have heard fish being caught was out of sebastian. But then again i think those anglers ran south Past Ft. Pierce...

NSB; We fish out of sebastian, as Jr. Angler said we'll run to Ft. Pierce to start our drift, but all our fish to date have been Just south of Sebastian (Vero) and north (Melbourne) In depth range of 900ft to 1200ft.

The 50 line (approx) is the depth range the guys down shoot for. We start at about the 48 line and drift North into about the 50 line. The bottom contour that we fish is as, CaptMitch puts it "is as flat as Paris Hillton's chest"

WE are looking for waters holding bait, temp breaks, thermalclines, planktoon blooms, ect. as well as depth. Find the food...you find the fish!!!!!
The "roll downs" sound like a good place to start with. I can't find my chart for your area ? Best of luck and let us know how you do

Capt. Ed Dwyer is having his seminar on March 5 and is supposed to include swordfishing. Haven't heard his name being associated with
swording but, he may be able to help. We are planning on going both
to see if we can learn anything and have a boys day out.
Like Islander said we have had some success but, no farther north then
Melbourne.

There are several people fishing/catching them out of St. Augustine, the guy who owns C & H lures has done alot of it. Same tactics as anywhere else, just not as much defined area to fish to. I would start in 900-1000', look for temp. breaks. You'll catch them.

Most of what you are looking to do can be done on a good bottom machine. Get out the book read it a bunch of times. Take the book with you and play with the machine the next time your out. You will learn to
watch it like you watch your radar when running at night.

 The only way to know for sure is to give it a try. All the southern fish have to swim past here at one time or another.
