Default Spreader lights

Is leaving spreader lights on while fishing a no no. Or does it help to bring the swords. Opinions appreciated

its a no no on my boat simply because i dont have spreader lights.

i personally hate fishing with spreader lights on. they just bother me. in my opinon there is no need for them to be on unless you are setting lines up or looking for a beer, or your pack of cigarettes.

When you get a fish on the spreaders suck. It make it hard to see which way the line is. We leave the hydroglow in the water if we need the light on a new moon.. but for the most part you don't need the spreaders just the hydroglow.

The boat I fished on up north used spreader light while night fishing. They made the cockpit easy to work in, but that was it. It was hard to see anything else beyond the circle of light. personally I have no use for them while actually fishing. They are great for setting up, re-arranging everything after boating a fish and for cleaning the cockpit up.

Believe it or not but we forgot the hydro glow one night so when we were setting up we had the spreaders on and we had a fish swim up into our spreaders but it tends to drain the battery. Also ive noticed when we fight a fish we get it up to the boat i think the spreaders tend to scare the fish. So when trying to gaff a fish i would have no lights in the water. I also heard of a fish wacking a hydro glow whyle trying to boat the fish.

LuNaSea (Great name), We agree with all your points. I'm a battery life freak and don't waist power on the spreaders. Also, the lights definetely spook a sword. After a solid hook-up we pull the hydra-glo so were ready to give chase if the sword comes up.
