Default West End Swordfishing

I am new to the forum and would like to say that this is the most comprehensive forum on the web, excellent work. The forum is both entertaining as well as extremely informative and am sure will increase my fishing success.
My question is, has anyone had any success for swords off of west end in the bahamas. I will be fishing out of there this weekend and would like to give it a shot but have no ideas of where to try or even if it would be worth the time.

Bullfighter Team will be in West End in May. Never thought of Swording so we'll be very interested in any posts from from members that have info.

Team Bullfighter,
I never fished West End before for swords, but I would approach it like I do at any new area. Find drifts with a lot of structure, drop offs and contour changes. If the water temp is right I would set up like we do off shore here and make some drifts. Drink some cold ones and have a few good chokes and I have no doubt that you will catch fish.

I hope your back in early June, I got a bad itch and need to get out swording to scratch it. Speak to you soon, good luck if you get out there this coming weekend.

Tight Lines,

Scott

Several of us have discussed swording in the Bahamas. General consensus seems to be that the sharks might be a big problem. Best way to find out is to try it.

Default Try it out

I just got back from Chub Cay yesterday and had to end our marlin trip short due to weather. But we did manage to get a few days in and caught a monster 130lbs White Marlin in the Pocket. If I had a little more time and good weather we would have tried for swords. The ledges there are amazing going from 75 to 2500 feet deep in less then 1/2 of a mile. With those kind of drop off there is bound to be a sword swimming there.

good luck and tight lines

Default Marlin

Tague, Congrats on the Marlin. When your ready to go for swords we're in. Any time any Bahama location. I think the shark comment from Captinmitch is an extreamly valid point! Some day We'd like to return to chub and "do it right". When you have a chance give us a full report.

Spoke to my friend chumminwithchunk and he said that the swords are migrating up along the edge, with the Provisionial channel current. That is where the commercial longliners set their drifts. I wouldn't worry about the sharks, we have them offshore here and it doesn't stop us from fishing. You may hook a nice Mako, so what you may catch that huge slob that you been looking for. John & John your there go for it! Where would we be if Columbus did set sail for the new world, a little drastic of a comparison, but the point is don't listen to the negatives. What do you have to lose a squid or 2, GO FOR IT. YOU'LL BE THE FIRST (PIONEERS), that will be something to talk about.

Occording to some reasearch I read the winter nursery grounds are of coarse here in the florida straits, to include both sides of the gulf stream ie South Florida, Bahamas. The fall nursery grounds off of Charleston SC.

Tight Lines,

I heard of one fish in excess of 400lbs (and several smaller ones) being caught off the Pines in Bimini back in 2000 or so but that was the last I heard about swording in the islands.

Besides, if the swords don't show, there's always the chance at a nice yellowfin.
