Love truly makes you do strange things. My wife of 21 years started a small catering business a few years ago. This year it took off bigtime so I've spent the last 4 months helping her. I haven't been out since January.
![]() That all ended this weekend when finally the schedule and weather cooperated. Pottydoc and I donated a sword trip when the Sail/Cuda clubs did the raffle for Guy's widow. The winner, Tom, brought two of his Coast Guard buddies along for the trip. The run down from Boynton was nice but uneventful. Worked some rips for awhile with no results. Got setup right at sunset and started a due north drift. Around 8:45 the mid rod goes off and we come tight on a Shimano 50. Fish pretty much comes straight to the boat as we're scrambling to make a ready deck. Turns out we had plenty of time because as soon as the fish saw the boat, he took off for a different time zone. After 45 minutes of back and forth battle, Tom hands the rod off to Justin to finish the job. Every time we'd get the fish close, he'd light the 50 up again. At one point, the fish rolled sideways under the spreader lights and we thought for sure he was a 200+ fish. Finally, with gaffs at the ready and a game plan in place, Justin swung the leader to me. Into the boat came a fat and still frisky 51" fish - just under 75 pounds. Man, he was not happy at all! The gang on the other hand was ecstatic. Both Tom and Justin were amazed that a fish that size could fight so hard. We put the spread back out for another hour but had to leave since one of the Coasties had to report at 0500. Thanks to Tom for his contribution to such a worthy cause and thanks to all 3 for being a pure pleasure to fish with. Mitch
