Default Suggestions pending

(Mod.) Mike,

I started an excellent refinement of inputs on an Excel spreadsheet last night; however, I left the computer, til next day, and now I cannot find the file: kids have access too. I have searched all over but cannot find it now. I will have to reconstruct. Will get it to you by Friday.

My suggestions as of now are to provide a fill-in report consisting of both categorical data as well as variable data (as you are proposing) : Categorical being one choice (from a pick list), like you have shown for seas, wind and moon; (but automated by a pull down menu) ( I have contacts if we need help on this format) and the variable data input conforming to predefined syntax (units of measure) ie. feet. mph, N lat. W. Long. etc. The inputs need to be structured, as well as being extremely easy to complete.

Between the fields you show on this thread and the original fields on SSC Statistics, you have most of it covered, just need to structure the inputs for consistent units.

The reporting field is suggested to be broken down into the details of the trip: ie. I.d. ,date stamp, and physical conditons. then

With individual reporting of fish on/off. per drift. (Spread sheet has good example formats)
Many of the details you already have all on SSC reporting form but refined into the categorical/variable structure as explained.

The structure should also include drifts (wpF - wpT) GPS tools required.
Catches/not along with individual fish details will need to identified within these drifts.

The key thing is to be able to report details per fish hooked and also if no fish were hooked. The reporting of non-action as well as action will provide even better details. The wealth of information that can be extracted from data posted in this manner will be worth the effort.

Default Stats: Glowsticks @ bait and/or at Leader junction.

I was thinking about another refinement of data input:

Does anyone believe it would be worthwhile to gather data about variations of bait presentation with respect to lighting. The possibilities to consider would be light/color at the leader junction, light/color in bait or adjacent, both or no lighting at depth.

Lighting was considered on Mike's list but the various combinations was not clearly defined. I think these variations could be worthwhile to track.
