hey guys... i have been reading and reading and reading this forum for months i finally got my own profile... so yes i am the F.N.G.--- first i got to say thanks for all the great info on this site
... now to the fishing, so i left out of P.E. about 7pm on 15 oct 08... caught a few small baits at the buoy and headed out to the Dania peak ... my rig was a 9/0 hook crimped to 250lb mono about 15 ft long with a large squid( rigged the head on with floss and tied the tip so she didn't bunch up on the hook. ) clipped my LP to the top of the leader and added a 24oz weight to my main line about 40 ft away with a rubber band. i dont have a Line Counter so i let out what seemed to be 300ft of line and weighted in a stiff 4nt current repositioned one time a little shallower, called it a night a 1 am.... caught 1 dolphin up on top in the hydaglow.... but my squid didn't get a sniff.... you guys got any tips for improving my sword game- how deep dose my bait run.... weight vs current vs line out...

I would say you do. Were you really only fishing one line!?!
If you are you need to be able to cover the water column, not just 300 feet. This is easily achieved with more than one line, but what you can do is use the tip rode method... no baloon, just let the bait down slowly then crank it back up... you can try leaving it at different depths for a few minutes so your arm doesn't die. But this would be the most effective because you can cover the water column. You could get bites at 300 feeet and none at 100 because of thermocline/fish are not feeding at that depth... Swords also love a moving bait. |
