Default Blue braided line. Why?

I havent been able to figure that one out. Is it maybe because some of the hollowcore lines only come in blue?
Something I dont know?
Im fairly new to this game so I thought Id ask if there was a reason most of you sword slayers seem to use the blue line.
Ive been using 80 and 100 lb SpiderWire braid in high-vis yellow for daytiming. I cant run the line into it, which is a bit of a drawback, but it is super thin and I can definitely see it which I find helpful for following the line on a drift. Seems like it would be harder watch the line, especially down below you, when its the same color as the water.
At that depth and with a long wind-on you arent worried about the fish seeing it so why use hard to see line?

It looks good. No other technical reason. At depth, and with a 100ft wind-on, it really doesn't matter what color your braid is.

Jerry Brown Hollowcore comes in Yellow, Green, and the natural color of the spectra fibers is white. The colored lines all have some type of coating to add color as spectra can't absorb dye. The white line is easier to work with too

momoi decided to get into the hollowcore market last year and made a big marketing push. They are known for their Diamond Line (Blue, Yellow, Clear) and IMO, one of the best mono's to fish with. So they came out with their Blue Diamond Braided line. This was their only color and they wanted to be different. They are in tons of retail stores with their mono so naturally the stores would carry the Diamond Braid as most stores never heard of Jerry Brown on the east coast of the US. JB has a cult like following for sure.

It didn't take Jerry but about 6 weeks to make a blue line and truth be told, the blue lines are hard as hell to see (day or night). But it does look good on the reel at the dock

So that's the skinny on blue braided lines

I don't know. Pretty line on that big gray beast is like putting lipstick on a pig. Maybe LP should start offering gray braid to match the reel.

Eric at LP told me they are working on a disco colored braid - color changes every 5 feet. Just kidding - I can't imagine one color fishing better over another at the depths we fish at. Harry

Ed Walker, that is impressive that you have taken several nice fish on manual. You and your team appear to be VERY fit. Who needs the gym when you can crank in 1800' +.

Hmmm....interesting concept. Ive been marking my line every 100 yards with a non-Sharpie magic marker. I put one mark at 100 yds, 2 marks at 200 ect... out to 600. Comes in handy when hand crankin'. We each do 200 yds (on low gear) if we have to pull the weight back up and you know exactly how much you have out when fishing and fighting a fish.
I wish I had pics of our line marking session.
Measured 100 yards on the street from one fence post to another. Next we turn on the clicker and ride the skateboard down the block, go round the post, and back, and back, ect... After marking each section we get back on the skateboard, then crank ourselves down the street. The neighbors got a kick out seeing us cranking ourselves down the street.

I'm checking out the momoi Diamond Braid.

Is a 1200 yard spool of 130# enough for an LP? Possibly some other line as backing & wind the momoi over it.

If you have a Titanium spool... filler up with 2500yds x 130# plus your windon. If you have the black spool, only put 1500yds of the 130# and no backing.

Tek Knows! He just did my LP with 100# JB and was right one with where we wanted it to be filled as I wasn't spending what they want for the Titanium spool and didn't want to spread the composite material one that the reel comes with. Harry

I may be wrong, but I think the only issue with spreading the new plastic spools is with #80 braid?

Vinnie,
I don't believe they are "new" plastic spools that are spreading but the ones the reel has been coming with since it was placed on the market. My reel was new when purchased but an older serial number and Eric warned me about over filling with any test line with the reason being as the spool fills the side pressure gets greater as the line is piling up farther from the solid core and the edges tend to spread outwards causing the spool to rub. I've seen it happen and it's why I fish with no more than about a half filled spool. If you consider from 1/2 to full as only adding about an inch to the diameter the speed of retrieve that you lose with less line is actually quite neglible. Harry

I fished the new plastic spool with 80# braid. I had it filled with Powerpro. No problems. I got wise and called Tek and he spooled my titanium spool with the White JB 100# HC. It's very easy to see and looks fine.

Harry,

I am certain that L/P has a new "plastic" spool that was developed recently. The L/P reel I use on occasion is about a year old and had the spool with the new material (not sure what it is, some type of space age plastic/lexan/kriptonite). We filled it with Diamond #80 and did spread it. Eric told me that it is only the second spool that has spread since the modification and both were spooled with 80#. We decided to switch to the titanium spool. The reel is back there now, there is a bushing between the drag lever and the reel housing that swells with heat and locks up the lever. If the bushing is black it needs to be replaced, if gray then it will handle more heat.

Again, service there is off the chart. If there was any reason to spend the extra money for the L/P, that is it.

The service at LP is awesome! I had a spool spread (old style) a few months ago, and I brought the reel in to Lp and Eric replaced the spool with the new style, and checked out everthing else on the reel. In only a few days I had the reel back, and the next day I caught a 300lb. sword.

So, when purchasing a new LP, you would want to buy one with "newer" serial number.

Good info for those looking to purchase an LP.
