Nice work Pat, John and crew. That could've gone from fun to f*cked in a second. Those smaller swords are the wildest.

Congrats.

When u let them get upright on there belly like that they tend to go nuts, it gives them the sensation they are swimming. Lay them on there side and they usually calm down. Its a non issue on my boat b/c no live fish come in the boat with there bill on, period!Knife+stabbing+soft spot on head= dead and safe! Cool video for sure tho!

If I did not say something it would be my fault too.

If it happens now it is your fault.

keep the camera rolling, it will make a good vid WHEN it happens.
Dave im pretty sure the majority of us that spend alot of time out there are well aware of the risks associated with what were doing..I know you and a few others like Vinny etc. on here have alot of experience, but dont act like your talking to someone who does not have any. Im not saying anything more than im aware of what im doing.

and wtf i didnt put the angry smiley at the top of my post

Cooper,

No doubt you have a lot of experience catching swordfish. But, the way that fish was launched out of the water onto a crowded deck was not an indication of safety first.

Be thankful that you had a crew of young bucks, had it been a charter the result may have been much different.

May you never find out just how far 20 miles offshore is when someone has a sword bill stuck in their neck.

Great job awesome video !

WOW this sounds just like me when I won my first tournament back in 07 for the contractors fishing tournament. With a young crew me 16,my mate 14 I think and my other mate was 13 at the time and We were on a 18 foot Grady white (first tournament, first win, young crew, tiny boat) compared to everyone else like (tuna king on this forum I think he fished it as well with salty can't remember) , on here and everyone else in the tournament were in their 25 + boats with good crews that have fished many tournaments long before I have. Well what I heard from some friends that were on the side lines at the weigh station were that people were shocked that I caught my fish (61 pound Wahoo). They were very surprise the size of boat we were in for the weather that tournament (wasn't real bad 4-6 wave heights 15 to 20 winds I think).
Well after that at the prize giving I had over 10 experienced captains and mates and crewmen from other crews explain to me that I am crazy and need to be a lot more careful in my boat. Well I took their advice but before that I was already doing rules like ( you have to wear shoes on my boat, gloves with the wire lines and different little things I have to explain to new people just so they wouldn't get hurt.
So us "youngsters" know the risk and we make decisions knowing what will happen.....Most the time ..... lol

only 18 now still a lot more crazy then the old slats like you guys! (except back home). But we(as in some young people) love to fish !

I'm sure that like me,many of us "older" guys have "been there, done that". With age comes experience. With experience comes wisdom. (dosn't mean we're smart though!!! - still catch myself doing crazy things now and then - just now know that they are stupid.........)
