I'll volunteer to fish with Vinnie! Only problem is we'd have to double the grocery bill!

The show didn't impress me. First of all they got joke captains and even worse editing. They overhyped everything for no reason. They made it seem like the bluefin was 800lb when it was more like 400; no way they fought one that small for that long. And i guess they made it seem like they were gonna let that Mako go, they gaffed it b/c it went in the fish hold. Im pretty sure it was a shortfin and they were fishing in the fall.
In my opinion if they were gonna put a 55ft fiberglass boat on the show they should have put my dad on there. He caught more fish yesterday in one section than that guy "chompers" caught in 5 sets, with 1,000 hooks a night. Not sure why they put a guy like that on the show when none of his peers respect him in the least. As for Linda, im not sure why she is on the show. She went out there and couldn't catch anything; because she didn't want to look bad she set in Canadian waters. I guess she thought that the video cameras would bail her out if she got caught. she was wrong and they threw her in jail. i guess it was worth it to protect "her huge reputation". I just wish they would aire that footage |

Hey Linda lost weight and looked pretty good for a "Long Line Skipper". I've seen some that didn't look that good - like the other guys on the show.
Quack - you were right - bad overhaul on the engine. Miss one nut on the rocker arm hold down assembly and the whole thing vibrates free in short order causing lots of damage. Leave a valve lash adjusting screw locknut loose and the screw extends until there is no clearance and there is your bent rod again. On this "dream crew" anyone need an overage engineer (USCG Licensed) with an actual long line trip under his belt even if it was in the early 60's - holy shit - that's last century - nah I pass even if chosen. I would buy a ticket to watch a show that had your Dad fishing in it. I was at Mike Blacks place yesterday talking about the old days when your Dad and I were mates. We fished a couple trips together for Mike on the Miss Deal.
Your Dad is a perfect example that PLL can be a successful industry if operated correctly, even in a small boat. It is extremly lucrative when in the hands of a responsible person. Unfortunatley what will be portrayed is a bunch of guys down on their luck who are looking for a lottery ticket each trip. All industries have those who excel and those who don't, 13 weeks of fishing on your Dad's boat would paint a much different picture than we are going to get from this show. |

I was talking to my brother last night about the show. He agreed about the Bigeye and crew. I guess my bro new the old owner of that boat. They had a few boats just like that. The Bigeye, yellowfin and bluefin. He said that bigeye boat was a pos 12yrs ago and had to even tow it in from the grounds one time. He said no way would take that boat out to the banks. I think they will get better boats and crews if the show makes it.

He said it was some seafood company. So I am sure that is it. He said he would not fish out front on that boat.

I thought naming a boat after fish or weather condition was bad luck? (talking about the Big Eye, or Andrea Gail... sounds too much like 'gale')

Yeah... naming a boat like that is being too cocky... the sea will eventually get revenge. Then again, with my luck lately, I might as well rename my boat "13 whistling pigs" and paint a banana on the side of my blue hull.

I agree. Lot more fish caught. But damn... Scotty keeps getting screwed. He's fished half the time and caught more fish. That's gotta say something.

Iagree. Last night's show was much better overall. However, it is clearly produced for the general population. For many guys on this Forum some of it remains dribble. For example, the narrator's script is annoyingly written to be extra sensational. For example, the narrator called a 250 lb. sword a 'monster' and took five guys to hoist. Nice sword but no monster. We should send them pix of Capt. Ken's, Pumpkineater's or Capt. Rob's swords well over 500. Those are monstas! They also caught a smallish BF tuna toward the end of the show that maybe went 125 and they also called it a monsta. The 600 lb. bf tuna from the first show was a sow but not a monsta either for that species. Did you guys also notice the shot of a schoolie dolphin on a cleaning table? What was that about? Was it for a crew dinner, bait? Also, Capt. Chompers is just a hot mess. His boat and equipment are totally lame. Might as well use a sundial and drop a rope with knots over the side or stick a wet finger in the air. It would be better than what he has. Finally, the broken wrist scene was nasty. All in all much better, but still some holes and bad narration. J

Juan to most people any fish bigger than there outstretched arms is a monster. It has to be edited and narrated for a mass audience. Steve I like watching nice fish get caught better then a full or empty pot of crabs.I love DC but it is about the crews and big waves not the crab. Allan they did catch and release a small sword last night.

yes, I saw the little sword release and no gaff this time.... but by by-catch I was meaning things other than swords or tunas etc. I am guessing the mahi was crew dinner. Hopefully the show will develop but I am already bored of hearing Chompers whining about how he will lose everything, yet he goes to sea with no SST capability????
