since the are trying to keep it hush that the daytime fish have been biting, but you all knew that anyway. cheers, O

Default You can jump all over me on this if you want to...

first off it was a great pic! and I would be very proud of it myself but for most of the people who don't know the difference between the commercial side and the rec side it may confuse people or get more of a negative than positive on the post. good to see hes outta the arm sling and doing battle! it was a great pic though! nice day! ... a day that you can hurdle fish on the back deck...priceless! good on ya!

I'm with TT on this one. And furthermore, to say RJ does not share his knowledge is a gross injustice to what he has given back to the fishing community. Most of us wouldn't have a clue about daytiming if it wasn't for him sharing his expertise at numerous seminars and meetings. On top of that, if you look at almost every tournament brochure around here, he is a sponsor.

I buy my sword gear from RJ. In fact, one of my best friends did his store. I just think that the forum should be about sharing great trips, not keeping things hush-hush. What's the point then?

I'm with ya TT. The deletion probably had to do with the commercial aspect. And of course once a photo like that is on the internet (with no explanation of the circumstance) it can spread and bring on some negativity. Oh well. Those of us that know better can appreciate a great day of fishing.

I was thinking the very same thing. . . I seem to remember a long speech in Ft. Lauderdale just a few years ago, in front of lots of the local fishing community, talking about "keep the commercial guys out of the Florida Straits". . . "Remember the 70's? Don't let it happen again". . . how quickly things can change
I personally don't have any problem with commercial fisherman and believe that RJ is a great fisherman and that he has contributed a lot to the local scene, but this just seems a little hypocritical

Ron or Vinnie,

I was wondering...I know there are a few people that are dropping with electrics and selling the fish under a permit. I remember Vinnie harping about the bouy fishery not being compliant with proper icing and care of the fish. If the droppers are selling the fish, do they have to comply with all of those rules as well, including all the vessel compliance rules of a commercial vessel?
Also, if you are catching on a charter and then selling the fish, how are those fish reported?

Thanks

Default daytime electric reel style used for hog hunting

Actually, the pic Nick posted didn't bother me. Commercial is commercial, they are out there to make money, that's what they do. Some do it better than others. That was an awesome day for them. It's not always like that.
I see the point of both sides.
Catch 'em up, all of you, but leave a few for me.

don't think the size of the fish is the issue.

Default best not to ever worry ...

about 'who has' 'who does' kinda thing. we should look hard at ourselves sometimes though and see we all like to kill n eat fish! plus you gotta have someone catch it for the local restaurant to serve it. I have a little charter boat it's got numbers and all the papers and insurance I have fun. wish I fished more.. I wish I had a permit... I had a kingfish license once, and I caught bait before also. so I know what it takes to make a boat run. and the nights your happy lil ass is not in bed with your girl... we may see more permits or other type boats soon due to people not reporting catch also..(I don't like reporting to people and I'm getting older and more cranky so call it in..) ...but always remember just color on your side of the line , don't throw away garbage overboard and have fun. we are all grown ups sometimes, and the pic was cool. it does suck the worlds not smarter sometimes..

I dont see why the picture was removed or why there is a problem with it either. If RJ is a licensed capt running charters and he has a license to sell fish then he isnt doing anything wrong and there is no reason to be critical, only grounds for congrats for a sick catch and a great day of fishing.

I was trying to understand what Ron was saying in his post before he removed it regarding charter fishing operations selling their swords that they catch on a charter. The only problem I could see is if the catch and/or vessel has to meet requisite commercial standards and/or how these fish are reported??????
I am pretty sure that a charter capt has to comply with the same standards as a commercial operation regarding their vessel requirements.

Nice catch regardless.

One thing to consider...if RJ or John had wanted to share a pic or report from that day, they would have. And they did not. I would be pissed if I had gone out, done well, and decided not to post here or on another forum for whatever reason, and then someone else who wasnt even on the boat decides to post the pic up after finding it somewhere else...Not sure if it was done to stir the pot up or not but still, probably not the right thing to do.

Just my .02, go ahead and kill me
