SFC Moe's Southwest Grill / Pole Dancer - SUMMER SWORD SLAM '09

Left the dock a little bit on the late side 6:45 after waiting on the crew to show up. Loaded up and we were off. Ran through a little rain but thankfully we seem to miss a big one that just pushed offshore and to the north of us.

Got out to the 47 with 3 minutes till line in. The plan was to Drop down 15 pounds to the bottom to soak for a half hour until the sun was gone. Unfortunately I had to introduced three newbie’s to day dropping by taking turns cranking in 2000 feet of JB from the bottom with 15 pound of weight after we couldn’t get it to pop off?

Set up the spread on the 48 and after a few minutes the back tip starts bouncing. We put Darryl from Moe’s Southwest grill on the rod.

After a short fight we pulled his first sword in the boat. Taped out at 48. I love seeing people’s faces when their first sword hits the deck. High fives and we put him on ice and get the lines back out.

Made a few more drifts without a slash… Very slow night as we heard on the radio a few hook-ups but no confirmations of catches… About 1ish after everyone starting to nod out from the burritos and beer, the front tip starts singing. I think I levitated out of the bean bag and get tight… tell my buddy Rizzi to get the harness on as he doesn’t have a sword yet. Fish shoots to the top and I’m cranking like all hell to get tight again. Get tight and she starts to run to the back, everybody worked together to get the rods moved around.

Fish gets the back and makes a jump completely out of the water less than 10 yards behind the boat in the flood and underwater. First time I have ever seen one jump. Awesome sight as it crashed back into the lit up blue water. Made a few more runs and then he hit the deck.

56 inches… Rob drags the fish to the box and stops for a quick photo for his facebook page…LOL

high fives all around as at this time there were only 8 fish caught, and we had two.

Soaked em one more time then headed to the scales.

All our fish were caught on natural squid from Ray’s offshore.

All fish were on the tip rods, One on the disco light 500' down, one on the purple uv 200'. all hook ups around the 48.

We took forth place overall with the 56… Small fish but was enough to place for a slow night.

Congrats to everyone who caught fish on this tough night.

Thanks to Darryl and Moe’s Southwest grill for getting us in the game, and thanks to Tracey and Drew for another well organized tournament.
