I'm getting ready for this evening and putting together a review of
the results of over 40 papers on swordfish into a PPT for discussion. Fact or BS?? We'll let Vinnie and the audience decide tonight. This one will be worth the drive. Be Green and safe, car-pool with a DD! cheers, O

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thank you Obama for the great meeting tonight. As always the data discussion is very informative. Special thanks to BP Vinnie for being a guest speaker and answering questions. Having both the O science data and Vinnie`s true real world experience verified some beliefs on migration ,temperature, and nature of movement. sorry I always show up late Thanks again guys- TE |

A big thanks to all those that showed up and contributed to last
night's meeting. As TE pointed out, the information was flowing last night as this forum's very own Broadbill Pro freely shared his knowledge last night and others such as Bill Collector, Catching, and Ryan from the Wonka Joe also kept the discussion going strong with great comments and questions. Dan I'm still thinking about what you said last night, your suggestion is an excellent one and would be a great PhD research question for someone to study. Would you like to restate it a sword science thread that I will start? The "FACT or BS" format last night was that I showed, many for the first time, summary slides of what science knows about sword migration, spawning, and migration. Vinnie would then add comment whether based on his vast experience if he agreed or not. Others would then join in with their own experience. I felt that the format really worked and it brought out that science theory is just really someone's best guess; that swordfish data is still very sparse and that sampling aliasing is a big problem, that most of what we have learned about swordfish is based on the data collected by and with long-liners, and that we still have a lot to learn. If there is sufficient interest here, I would like to keep the discussion going here. One hot topic is whether there are significant differences between the migration pattern of males versus female. One small data set suggests that large females do stay put more than males. I'll start a swordfish science thread later. cheers, O

The meeting last night was the perfect forum for science to meet experience. I am not so comfortable with giving a presentation, as I do not really have an agenda. When the Professor raised an issue and then allowed me and others a chance to comment on it a lot of good information was revealed. I enjoyed the night and will be at the future events. Thanks to Arthur for hosting and I would like to extend an invitation for him to fish with us.
