we never saw the tinkers at all had 3 fish swim up in the light 1 fish hung out for about 5 minutes busting baits on the surface but couldnt get him to hit any of ours.1 was jumping all over the place next to the boat, that was a neat site but not a bite.

Did the current pick up at all? It was less than 2 knots on Friday Night.

You could tell it was a Sat. night with all the boats out. We caught a fish at 8:30 that was 59' and a nice start to the night. I seem to think that i'm very respectful when around other boats and try not to set up in front of other peoples drift. Just i little advice to new guys getting into swordfishing have a little respect for the other guys around the area you want to fish and remember how strong of fish they. Setting up to close to someone could be bad for both of you with fish making long runs could possibly tangle both peoples gear. Forty yards is not enough distance to set up next to someone eventhough it is a free ocean, so we pulled in our spread and moved offshore away from everybody. Before we could get the spread out we had a good one on the front gunnel bait. With the other lines clear and the harness on BigDawg drove me up to the fish for a shot at getting him quick. Well that didn't happen with getting a good look at the fish at the side of the boat i would guess he was between 150 and 200lbs. At the one hour mark i ended up pulling the hooks and was felling it after seeing how nice of a fish he was. Thanks again BigDawg will get her next time.

I usually am happy with 100 yards but last night was a little much when a vessel came from the north to reset and stop maybe within a 100 yards and turned his lights on. Hoping he would continue on his heading for maybe a short time i turned the rear spreaders on, which he must have thought was a beackon. I wouldn't think of setting up that close to someone in any situation much less out on the sword grounds. After a few minutes of humor watching the other boat set up we reset in clean water and instantly hooked a fish. Well back to setting up to close to boats i know its backed out there sometimes and it is a free ocean but think about what your trying to catch and its strength especialy if its a big fish.

Had a great time Sat. and Sun. nights. However, the pulled hooks after having a shot at the boat was the only downfall, other than that we went 2 for 2 with two additional missing baits, hmmmmm....... Drew, I've given up on the flyer only mentality. That's the first fish I've missed on a gaff when the shot was at stake. That will not happen again! That is why a harpoon will accompany me from here on out. Sardines are thick out there right now, haven't been able to get the tinkers. Runners(aka:HARDTAILS) and squid. Additional note on the above post mentioned on gaffshots!!! I did stick your first fish in less than 7 seconds!!! Count it, 80LB. fish stuck in the head in seven seconds. Then proceeded to give Darkside the ride of his life. Quite a bloody mess if you ask me

But like we talked about on the way out BigDawg thats why we go. It was a blast riding that thing for a couple of minutes on the deck. I was going to put down 1 for 2 in the log book but i quess you could say we went 2 for 2 because i did get to the leader. Well good job on the release last night lets go get a chunk when the weather calms down. 8) 8)
