Default Night trolling produces 247-pound swordfish

For those of you who still doubt that it can be done read this artical from Sun Sentinel. There are some well know names that are starting to chime in now.
Night trolling produces 247-pound swordfish -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com

It's tuff convincing people that Trolling at night and Lures works, and I'm no salesman, just know swordfishing, not how to sell it.
Give it a try while fuel is still affordable. It's a blast.
There is nothing like the strike of a swordfish while trolling.
If you know how to troll, you're good to go. It's a lot easier and quicker than the drift setup.
I have a bunch of info on Night Trolling methods on the NightfightersLures website.

Get hold of Tek at Reel Pro Shop if you are interested in the Swordfish lures.

Very cool... any idea how they are rigging the squid and spanish for swordfish trolling? Are they puting transforms or lights stick in or infront of the baits?

Thanks

The artical didn't say, but I have found that when using the lightstick in front method, the lightstick gets swatted. Putting a Transformer inside the bait attracts the bite to the bait its self. I like using the LP flashers up the line.
Don't attach any light source to your snap-swivel, if the fish swats it, it can open it. Been there, done that. Also make sure you have the light source on heavy leader line not on the main line, a swat will cut through the 80-100# mian line with ease.

I would like to know more about the rig . How are they getting the baits deep enough are you using a Downrigger,Z-wing , or in line sinker?

We will be discussing trolling at the Swordfish Club meeting tonight. We hope to have Nightfighter and Dan there to discuss their success too.

Good stuff I have tried trolling for swords and love it even though i have not caught one yet. I like the C&H mini light on the leader like Nightfighter saids with a rubberband and small longline snap.I have also used this light in the lure itself looks awesome.

Has anyone tried trolling back to your spots after a night drift to reset? That way you can keep lines in more often... Just a thought, I haven't tried it...

Baits are on top like a regular trolling spread down rigger will work to get one down deep.

That would be my only concern. If you can put one deep, great. A lot of bites are deep in excess of 200'. If the fish is down that far I doubt it would swim all the way up to chase a trolled bait on the surface. That may be why "you have to put your time in" and catch them on a night when they are feeding close to the surface (new moon???). Just thinking out loud.

200ft up is about three shakes of her tail.

The basic concept... The boat itself gets their attention. They'll swim up to investigate, then see some bright lights in the wash (the glow sticks on your leaders). When they get closer, they'll see the silhouette of the lures in the wake and, hopefully, attack.

some nights when its a parking lot on the 50, then add the beeper bouys, I have a tuff enough time weaving through all that without dragging baits. Still would like to try it . I imagine against the stream you'll need to troll at 10knts to make any real kind of head way.

You can tease them up from depths with light teasers.
