Thumbs up Anyone willing to take out a sword greenhorn

I'd really love the opportunity to witness what it takes to get a sword in the boat and was curious if anyone would be willing to add an extra member to there boat the next time they head out, I would of course help with any cost and anything I could do to help out. Please let me know, thanks

I wouldn't worry, people always like extra hands on deck... I won't be back until december but if you are interested, I can always use help with gas these days. I'm always looking for swording buddies

I am young but have a good job selling obsolete and hard to find military, and commercial aerospace parts, so I dont have a problem helping out but I need my own boat soon so gotta budget accordingly

Get the light weight Grundens, either the ultra lightweight yellow or medium weight white. They are water proof, not resistant and will last. Ive have/had the gore tex type stuff. Fine for a hot summer day thunderstorm where you dont mind getting damp, but dont want to get soaked to the bone. Not so good when waves and spray are coming over the side into the boat. Just my two cents.

Default Need an Immediate Job. Any Openings?

Hello Good morning, afternoon, evening. My name is James. I have been currently unemployed for 2 years now, and i now have a child on the way. Ive been a disappointment to myself, wife, and unborn child. I work very very hard, and don't know the meaning of to give up. I will work my hardest every single day. Without ever letting up. Its just not in me. What i am looking for is a commercial fishing job. I have never been employed by a fishing company or have i ever been that far out to sea. But i am a extreamely quick learner and am very good with my hands. I work safe and am always looking out for other peoples safety. I have no hard feelings about being the "grunt" or being yelled at and put down. That is something that i have come accustomed to. I need a change, and am able and willing to do anything to PROVE it. All im asking for is a chance. If there is anyone out there that needs help or is willing to offer a job. I will never let you down! I will be there whenever and Where ever the job needs me. Once employed I am a very loyal employee. And will follow every direction WITHOUT question or comments. I dont want to seem desperate... but its too late for that. If you lived my life, you'd understand. My Email is Wrestle983@aol.com C:2245656850. Please keep me in the back of your minds. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Again, thank you

druznm, you purchased an effective suit for winter fishing. Although heavy, it's roomy and probably made in China of recycled tires and condoms with a shot of red dye #2. The Doc is right that there are lighter suits on the market. You can add to your collection with a banana (yellow) or ice cream (white) suit that would be better for warmer weather.

keep your rain gear in a back pack, put sunscreen, and what ever special things you may need in there, snack, healthcare, etc. boots are even optional weather permitting. get some seasickness medicine just in case you are not sure you can hang bumpy seas.

No other suggestions other than the coast guard? Im 26. So coast guard is well out of my reach. What my plan was. Was just to go to mass, florida, or maine. And just go from dock to dock asking if they need another deckhand/greenhorn. Does that seem logical? I need expertise advice from a seasoned fisherman. I LOVE to fish. I just don't know how to go about finding this job that i need so bad. Im willing to do just about anything to get it. Please Advise! Or how bout some intel on Fishing companys with locations that may be hiring. You guys just dont know how helpfull you all will be. Im all ears. My daughters well being depends on me. and Im looking for help from you all. I DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO!

Your not to old yet for the military. Its really your best bet. They will give you an education that you can find a job when you get out plus pay for you a place to live and provide food for you family.

It will be VERY difficult to make an honest living in most fishing related jobs. The military might be a very good option with a baby on the way - stability, steady income, excellent medical/dental benefits, opportunity for the Govt to help pay for your education. . . think LONG TERMMost commercial fishing is being "regulated out of business" Just my .02

For Jarman, the military may be a challenge...Even when I was recruiting fifteen or so years ago, entry level (recruits) with dependents were a tough to get in. The bottom line is for the lower ranks, the pay is below poverty. Most of the folks I knew that had kids needed to get food stamps, WIC credits, and other welfare in order get by.

Also, the recruit has to demonstrate how the family will survive (financially) during the duration of boot camp.

Notwithstanding all that, if he can get in, it would be a decent opportunity if he and his family can surmount the hurdles.

I can't imagine commercial fishing being a good life for a newly started family...although you may love fishing, but the time away and the occasional low (or no) paycheck for a lot of hard work just wouldn't seem stable enough...plus I would imagine any kind of affordable life insurance would be difficult to find.

Why not look into fishing related industries...anything from equipment, suppliers, fish houses, boat builders, west marine, etc...get your foot in the door and still be around fishing while getting your family started and some experience under your belt...

Im makin my way down to west palm in a week or 2. Maybe by then someone will need a helpin hand. I looked into the military, because of asthma they wont accept me. So All the military suggestions were great. But. I was denied. just my luck. My asthma really isn't a problem for me. the recruiters thought it would be. Remember. If ANYONE needs a deckhand I can be anywhere (stateside) In a matter of hours. Thanks for all your guy's help. I really appreciate it!
