I recoverd a tag that was at large for 5 years, it was estimated at #60 when released off Cape Canaveral and I estimated it at 160#.

I think the tag guys fumbled that one.

Kinda hard to believe. I guess that fish learned his lesson and stayed on the bottom to feed for the past 5 years! lol

Thats the problem with spaghetti tags. You only get where it was tagged and where it ends up getting caught. The fact that this fish was caught in the same general area the exact same time of year points more to the fact that swordfish probably follow the same migratory patterns year after year. It really proves nothing about residency.

Ofcourse unless the fish is caught on the opposite side of the migration, like being released between now and December and then recaught in April would be a clear sign that the fish did not go far.

Also depends on the sex of the fish. Obviously Tim's fish was female. However, males top out at 150-200lbs. So, if BBPro's fish was male, then the growth would be consistent.

micchip... They were talking about a male swordfish, not a male mako. Easy mistake. This thread has changed topics a few times.

Incredible story and pics! In that fourth pic you're dragging something in the water that looks like the shark is after what is it? A strip of meat w/ a skirt? Also there are two Swords in the boat, how much did the scond one way? Looks pretty sizeable as well. Thanks for the pics, crazy.

Just curious... why were they only steaming in at 12kts? Were they trying to get the mako to follow? Seems to me that getting up on plane for a minute would have solved that "stalker" issue.

Nice pair of swordies for sure & what an amazing story. Tim let's him go, and RJ gets him down the road a "piece" w some more size to him (or her).
Sounds like that Mako was pretty hungry. Those Suzuki's are sweet, shame he got his teeth in, but what pictures & story.

I think his point was like male Swords male Makos do not get that big either. The one caught up at the dump was a 500lb. male which is almost unheard of.

Default 2 swords in PIC

That was an insane story with Pic's to prove it WOW! I see that there is a sword missing from this story. If he released a fish that was 65in with a SAT tag and caught that 340 that got chewed then where did that other sword come from that was in the PIC with the 2 kids and the chewed 340 sword?

Just curious
