Default This Sucks

Well maybe the proper expression when it comes to all these named storms is "This Blows !". These hurricanes are really screwing up the fishing for the entire week and maybe longer. I know in the big picture, its no biggie and life goes on, especially if we dont get hit by one, but I was really looking forward to getting out this weekend and I am getting cabin fever. There is only so much tinkering that you can do with your tackle in the garage.

Anyways keep your spirits up guys.

It does blow but I am going to do some work on the boat between the rain, shes in need of some wax and routine stuff. Can't wait to get out there again soon. I hope the folks in Louisianna are ready for this one. They are in for a wild ride.

Tuna

Richard,

Fly up to Atlantic City...contact either Canyon Runner, Pez Machine, or Over/Under Adventures and catch tuna 40 miles out until your arms fall off....plus we went 4 for 6 on swordies....

Keep a bait just outside the light but inside of the inside jug/balloon as a pitch bait. Use a razor sharp j-hook instead of a circle and you don't necessarily need to waste time stitching the head on as long as the bait's fresh. A stitch of wax thread doesn't slow a slashing sword down one bit. I like a 30' 400lb leader with my lp light at the swivel (just above swivel so swivel can still function). Weight 60 - 70ft away from bait.

Mix in a few live baits too...

COŅO!!!!!!! 30 feet of leader wow! and lead at 60-70 feet I have been doing it wrong all this time? But I do respect your rig brother.I use 15 feet of 300 lbs leader and my light is right on top of the swivel L/P or mini C/H disco light. My lead is rubber band at about 30 feet but I will try your way "Billspilling"

Thanks for all the input and hints I have much more to work with, common problem most have said is my weight is too close to the bait, will get it out to around 40 ft. Billspilingup being from Lighthouse Point do you remember seeing a Bert 31 the Becky Too, I have her here in Texas now. Wish she was desil as we need more range here but still love the boat.
I WILL REPORT FROM THE DARK SIDE SOON!!!!!

I'd be willing to bet you've caught more fish than I have! I've caught plenty of fish with 15' leaders... I just found I catch more with longer leaders. And I love to take sword dogs for a walk with a long leash! I guess it should be noted here that whenever anyone is dealing with leader and a fish at boatside, they should have a knife or (I can't think of the name now) one of those razor blades in the plastic handle that works so well for cutting the leader when releasing fish. And a lightstick, already cracked and glowing, in a pocket at all times of everyone on board just in case of a man overboard situation.

Have you tried using a small LL clip to attach your lead to a wax loop? Much quicker than a rubber band. I don't like to lose my leads so I zip tie them instead of using a rubber band.

They seemed to eat better with the lead farther away. Granted, the bait is being pulled through the water with the lead 30ft or 60ft away but I think the extra few feet of distance lessens the immediate pull of the lead on the bite and gives them a bit more leeway to get the bait down before coming tight.

31 Betram is a gorgeous boat but I do not remember that boat. I sure do admire every one I see on the water though!

I've been thinking...

If you don't put the light away from the MONO, wouldn't the light reflect off the mono, which would not be very stealthy? I've been putting my light almost a ft. away from the mono, using a small LL clip.

Bills, I also use the small LL clip to a wax loop for the weight. Works great.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Default weights..

I still use the rubber band on the weights but I use the LL clip on the lights..(don't want them poping off at $40.00 plus gas or shipping..) fishing with charters I like the wind-ons they don't seem to wrap up the people so much. I do love to feed the swordies by hand though in the light.

Yeah! I grew up wireing fish so 30 foot leaders sounds like fun to me. I love leadering a fish in my self but not everyone knows how these days. The wind on are the way to go!

Thank, DL

DID SOMEONE SAY DIRTY HOOKERS?? We want title sponsorship for the trip!!

LL clips are the way to go. Lead is too damn expensive to buy before every trip. Save your money for gas.

Tip: I use TrotLine clips sometimes instead of LL clips. You can get them at bass pro. They're cheap and work just as well! $10 for 25 clips. The fresh water guys use them to attach the line to a main line for cats, trout, and bass.
