If I were gonna get close enough to saw the bill off, I would elect for my trusty fish bat to quiet a green fish in the cockpit.

Hey BSS:
I am internet starved and deprived, so I am just now able to commandeer the bar computer to peruse the inter net. Oh, I have the fix now. But what the hell kind of question was that? Just where exactly did you prefer to saw the broad's bill anyway: in or out of the water? Sorry, if I am a bit blunt but it must be the Guana grabbers that are grabbing my mind-set. Hey whaterever works for you. But I would highly recommend a DeWalt battery powered saw-zall to get the job done. Hey guys, I am sending to you completely wireless from Great Iguana Cay, Abacos, Bahamas. I am hanging out at a bar overlooking the real Atlantic Ocean, nothing from here to Europe except the canany Islands. Yeah, mon. I am listening to some high tempo Bahamas music: names later. I just got back from a beautiful reef dive. Just off shore from the bar. Rumor has it that there are some swordfish in these parts. I will get back to you later on these questions. Yesterday, I caught a beautiful 10-12 lb. mutton snapper. Yeah mon, on a Yozuri minnow artificial. On what reel yo u may ask? My trusty 50TW. A bit over powered but that reel sure did screem with that mutton: we were cruising. Oh, yeah, on the blow boat, mon. But that is fine by me. Oh, forgot to mention the name Nippers, the bar, the place, where it is happening, fish, eye candy, beaches, bitches, you name it and ya mon RUM. Gootta go because the things are acting up a bit over here. More later. But consider this place a thumbs ups if you have never been here before. RT P.S. - check out Nippersbar.com and there is a web CAM too, yeah mon. Hey, I have not even seen it yet. But I will. |

Boca Sword Slayer:
Hey I just got in from Marsh Harbour yesterday afternoon. Got to swab the decks and hoist the sails and ply the waters, sampled some Guana Grabbers and some Voodoo Juice too, just enough to exercise the inner pirate in me. While I was there, I was refreshed to an old technique which I may vaguely remember back in those fatigued brain cells: Feed a fresh fish a shot of alcohol, on the gills. Some fish will go ballistic once landed in the boat. I would think that sawing off a Broad's bill could be slightly painful and introduce some added frantic action. Or perhaps not since I never tried it before. But I would recommend that you try pouring some 40% or higher drinking alcohol onto at least one side of the fishes gills, if you have the chance. WOW, amazing, the fish sedates almost immediately. We did this to a Spanish Mackeral: just a small amount, like less than half of those 150 ml bottles. The Mack immediately layed quiet on the deck and did not even move again. We did it again on a 10-12 lb. mutton snapper: BAM, he was sedated but his gill plates still kept moving for a while but no thrashing around. So, I am going to pack a few of those bottles into my swordfish box. Next time we put one in the boat, I will give it a go and see how well it works on larger fish. It may be worth a try for you to, so you don't have to lug around the sawz-all and battery pack. Allow the swordfish to die with some dignity and you may still have some good photo-ops on the boat or back at the dock. P.S. - Maybe keep a pint around for the angler too. RT irat:

As a commercial swordfisherman and the butcher I would have to say that keeping control of the bill is the most important, Have a meat saw at the ready! and be sure to wear cotton gloves when attemting to boat a live swordfish, as the the bill is very slick and slimy! cut the whole head off about a half an inch behind the eye, Be very wary of the lower jaw! It's just as dangerous as the bill!!!! Have fun and be safe out there!
