Default 3-speed reel

has anyone heard of a 3 speed reel, such as:a 1:1.2 or so , 1:4, and a ridiculous 1:8 or 9? for getting the lines in quick or gaining when a fish is charging and the other two for fighting the fish? that'd be interesting to see if someone came out with one

I pray that I may live to fish.......
Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
And peacefully asleep
That in His mercy I be judged
Big enough to keep

haha sorry hannaman, it was just a thought earlier in the day. Doesn't mean I'm not all for handlining a sword some day. In fact I'd rather do that, than invent a 3-speed reel.

Fin Nor used to make a 12/0 Tri Gear, I have not seen them on the market now for 7 or 8 years.

2 speed is enough of a beating for me. I cranked on a sword a few months back at 2 speed with about 20lbs of drag.. My arms were done!

I guess it would be good when they are rushing the boat though.

But I love to ruin a swords day once he settles down and crank that 2 speed on them. :high

No. 2 speeds are enough. On my boat when we troll and it's time to pull the lines, occasionally I'll have someone take an outrigger line and i'll take the other. We race to reel in and I'm undefeated... Any takers? :king: 01456

Making the reeling easier than it already is would be bad. It's supposed to be a challenge. That's why they call it sportfishing. Nothing makes me sicker than watching some fat slob sitting his out of shape ass in a fighting chair with a thousand dollar reel, reeling in a swordfish and thinking he actually did something. And if you have to pass the rod off you should just cut the line.
