Default Tanacom Bull 1000 - Too Small?

Would this reel be too small to use for daytime Swordfishing? I was told I could put like 30-50lb braid and be able to. With that heavy of line, I wouldn't get to fish heavy drag

Don't bother.

If your expending that much time and effort into deep dropping for swords... use big tackle. The TB-1000 is my favorite reel in my arsenal, but I'd much rather manually crank an 80 with 100lb braid for daytime swording.

Thanks guys.

I was trying to avoid the whole manual reeling part. After trying it once, I'll probably never do that again.

Tommy Green is selling a gizmo (Kinda like the dreel) that adapts to 50's and 80's. it basically clamps on the base of the handle and locks in, then slide your drill in the bit and your good to go. Pretty neat little gadget.
Has anyone used it??

Wussy. Talk to me again after you've cranked it up over 50 times.

I have the tom green tool , it does work very well I was scared it would not work on 12 pounds 1800 feet down but , I have a ryobi 18v cheap $39.00 drill and it yanked the weight up from the boat in high gear no problem , I went through two batteries in 3 drops though I am thinking about just getting a new dewalt drill with longer battery life and more power. I can only do 3 drops manually by hand and I get wiped out. this made it possible to do as many as I want( with 5 batteries and two charging all the time ) like owning a electric reel , but when the fish is on I catch it like a man by hand.
I would not spend $3500.00 on a electric reel it will take all the fun out of fishing you might as well just be a commercial fisherman at that point.

just my personal $.02

Thumbs down weekly schmoehab

so the electric reel takes all the fun out of fishing? I'll have to remember to wipe the grin off my face next time I see the rod bouncing, and make sure I frown while I drop back to load up another one. Electric reel fishing is fun. What sounds like a pain is fiddle faddling around w/ cordless drills. whatever...........just caught myself wasting my breath. Good luck w/ your ryobi

Electric (or hydraulic) reels are for commercial fishing. If you wanna catch the fish, nut up and fight him yourself.

Red face to each his own

got plenty big enuff nuts, and have hand cranked 1500'+. Electrics are fun and if you don't abuse the resource they aren't a problem. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Afriend of mine makes the piece that tommy green sells It is a great tool. My buddy wont make junk. He has made a few diffrent fishing tools some have already been bought out buy large tool making company. I have a set of cutters that he designed and built that will cut cable and braided line with no fraying of the ends.

My two cents - I'm a fan of electrics and as long as you can afford it, I'd go with a larger electric reel. You'll also take this reel to the Bahamas and many times in the islands we've had very large tigers eat our fish and rigs on the bottom (you'd think they would cut through 300lb mono rigs but no...) and a small reel just wouldn't have the guts to haul them up over a few hours. And for those of you arguing about nut size, I win. One of those tigers tangled with the other line and I got to handline 1500ft of twisted spectra with a 14ft tiger, bunch of queens and small mystics, and two 10lb leads since neither reel could retrieve because of the tangle. It was an hour of pull, take the slack up on the reel, pull, take up the slack... But hey, saved the fish, line, and leads.

Damn Buck, looks like we won't be talking then

I was thinking about using the new electrics for daytiming, but I will probably just wind up using them as kite reels and deep dropping.

Good choice. The TB-1000 is an awesome little reel... but just not suited for deep swording.

I higly doubt that thing even holds enough line. The last one I hooked on the bottom I had out about 3,000 feet of line and I was fishing in about 1800feet.

in my opinion the ultimate daytime sword reel is the diawa mp 3000 but we
have had great success with the tanacom bull 1000 using both 30# and 50# line
the motor is fine for bringing up the lead and the drag is great for fighting fish
if you already have one dont hessitate to to use it
