Well I will be in Costa Rica for a week in June. I need to find some one to do some fishing with. I have done some research but I am only coming up with two boats in the area that I will be staying in.
Here are the links: http://ticotravel.com/fishing/osprey.htm http://ticotravel.com/fishing/capullo.htm Tek told be about crocodile lodge but it is just to far south. And when I call to talk to the captain of these boats the lady at the travel place wont let me and she wants 100.00 just to pass my emails on to them which I am not doing. So I look to you guys for some help. I am staying in the area of Flamingo and Tamarindo they are on the north western pacific side. So any help would be great also if you have heard of these guys. But, I don't like the way the travel people handle it. I will shoot some one if I get down their and we catch barracuda all day. thanks in advance Steve

Hey Steve,
There is a young guy down there that I have fished with before that I would recommend. He's from So. California and has lived down there chartering for a while out of the Playa Junquillal/Avellones/Negra area (which is just south of Tamarindo within driving distance). He runs about a 23 foot aluminum center console. He's priced pretty well, knows what he's doing, and an all around great guy. We happened to have a "slow" day by his standards when we went out, and still got into some yellowfin and sails. Anyway, you can contact him through the Hotel Iguanazul in Junquillal. I've listed his info below. Hope that helps. Ryan *Capt. Adam Hermsen *e-mail: Cr gamefish@aol.com *phone: 011 (506) 371-4418 *address: Hotel Iguanazul Playa Junquillal Sta. Cruz, Gte. Costa Rica. |

I fished on a boat out of Tamarindo back in 1996, I thought it was the copolla, but it was a 28 foot Boston Whaler. It was owned by an american and his wife was a chiropractor in Tamarindo. If it is the same owner he runs a great boat and knows his chit.

A few years back i was in Flamingo for 2 weeks. the only docks in flamingo i saw were on the way in to the small town of Flamingo. i was there for the first couple of weeks in june as well and there were huge YFT in great numbers everyday. i dont remeber the names of the boats but i do remember the osprey. there were about 3 or 4 old 31 bertrams that ran daily charters for about 550 - 600 day. there was aolways a boat open for a charter we spoke to a guy named luis who we met on the docks and he set us up.

There are several charter boats in Flamingo. It is generally calm in June so boat size isn't as important as other times of the year. It is the rainy season so the boats are not heavily booked. I wouldn't sweat booking anything in advance. Once you get to Flamingo go down to the marina; there's only one, and eyeball the fleet. There can be a huge difference between the boats. Some are questionable at best, and some are decent. I'm sure you can get a good deal on a decent boat.

I went over on Memorial day weekend out of Jaco / Los Suenos. I had a blast but the fishing was very poor. The rainy season has triggered a red tide algae bloom. The blue water was well over 40 miles out and the near shore water was dirty / muddy at the river mouth also due to the rains and run off so the rooster fishing was weak too. Hopefully by the time you get there in June the red tide will have passed. You may want to check out the tropic section on the other forum for updates. I do not know how far away you will be from Jaco but I think the more you look into this you will hear similar reports.
I fished only one day due to how poor the reports were. I had to at least try to give it a shot. We saw tons of debris and an entire tree in the water with birds on the branches and absolutely no lfe in the water around it. I was amazed. We managed to catch one small dolphin and one bonito. I am Irish and my good luck escaped me for this trip. I will be back in January or February in peek season to get the full Costa Rica fishing experience. I suggest that you hit the marina you plan on fishing out of and get some local knowledge before you charter multiple days. If you have time for some side trips - try the canopy tour, white water rafting and definitely rent ATV's to go back roads and up in the mountains. Good luck and tight lines.
