Default Longline boat on hillsboro beach 4/28

this morning a long line boat ended up on hillsboro beach just north of the inlet. It didn't say how the boat got there. Coast guard officials said that they refused assistance to remove the vessle from the beach ops: humm.. i wonder why?

Although the vessel is in some sort of distress, that's not longer the coast guards work. 1800 Sea Tow, Those bastards don't deserve a free tow from our tax dollars.

That boat is the Gina Page 1. Had been tied up on the Dania Cutoff Canal for the past week or so. Wonder what the story will end up being? Also what is the story with the Whaler on the beach behind it.

The CG is not a "salvage" organization. I hate to see anyone get their boat damaged. I wonder why the guy didn't drop anchor before he beached it.....

The boat looks pretty small right? Maybe 40 feet? Looks like there is gear in the water too.. I'd like to hear the story.

Looks like the boat that tried to help out (Boston Whaler) got beach too?

But why are there buoys hanging off the whaler? We should've warned them it's more dangerous than Gloucster

I heard they (both boats) hit a shoal. They told the Coast Guard they were going to wait for high tide to try and get the boats back out.

Default longliner aground

Sorry but I dont see anything funny about someone elses misery! How would you like it if your vessel ran aground? Just because its a longliner it doesnt mean they were fishing here.It also does'nt mean they are bad people.

I don't consider myself the greatest captain to ever live, but how does this happen? Even if it isn't your home port, Hillsboro inlet is not very difficult at night, especially with appropriate electronics.

Actually that longline boat looks like a pretty nice package for fishing purposes. sPEAKING OF ELECTRONICS, My initial thoughts were that their electronics along with auto-pilot may have gotten them in too close to shore before they may have realized that they were already too close to shore.

I would imagine that they are a fishing crew from another area since I cannot imagine that they would be actively longlining in this area, unless it was a part of the "experiment". What really catches me as odd, is from the arial photos taken, I cannot see an anchor line out on either vessel.

I may not be a master boater but if I accidentally had my vessel beached (or if I was crew on anyones else's vessel), I would have one or two of my strongest holding anchors deployed with the absolute shallowest scope achieveable. With those solidly in place it them seems practical that the bow could point into the waves if you keep some pressure on the line, with either an anchor winch or even a come-along linked to some loops tied into the anchor line, rather than broached and taking a beating and flooding with each wave hit.

I certainly don't mean to make fun of anyone's situation, especially in distress like that, but I am simply scratching my head why that Boston Whaler with outboards is stuck along side the other swordfishing boat. Even if the whaler got beached as the photos clearly show. That boat should be able to break free, in short notice, from a sandy beach with a good anchor, line and crew of two or three. (If something was missing then it is understood, sh it can happen. So I wonder what the crew is thinking, or maybe they are just taking a rest-break (Union rules & regulations and all.) ops:

THe only shoal i can think of is those rocks to the right of the inlet, must've overshot it. Nothing more than irresponsibility drove them into that situation.

is it possible that the longliner was maybe asleep and had the auto pilot on and forget to wake up and beaches boat 1 , so he goes and gets his other boat and beaches it while trying to pull the other one off. anyway they moved the whaler off sometime saturday .

"The U.S. Coast Guard said two people were on board and refused commercial assistance in removing the boat.

The boat is taking on water and officials said it might overturn.

The Coast Guard said some of its members were attempting to get the men to cooperate with officials and remove the boat."

Default Big boat still beached on Sunday afternoon

Was hanging out at Hillsboro Inlet this weekend and took a walk on the beach and noticed that the Bigger swordfishing boat is still beached.

Upon closer inspection, I noticed that they had no accomodations for an anchor. Someone had put a water pump with a container of gas on the roof but nobody was there. So it appears that this boat may be heading for the salvage heap. Hmmm, I am just wondering if this vessel was insured?

I talked to Vinnie via satellite phone the other night, he told me that he passed a mile and a half of longline gear on the 47 line right off of Lauderdale on the morning of April 26th when he was crossing over. He said the boat was hauling the gear when he was passing. Longliners have not been stopped, that’s a crock.

We were fighting a blue off of hatteras this week that ran us into longline gear. "Cut that F*ing Sh*t". We released a 450lb blue 30 minutes later. The set was easily over 20 miles long, set over prime fishing areas people work off the outer banks. It's a disgrace.
