With all most zero or zero bycatch and a very low mortality rate!!Sounds good to me.Hell if they keep that up there will be no need to open up to PLL boats.I hope you are excited about that number.

Default Here we go again

Thanks for keeping us updated, Ron. Yes, both the fishing and weather were great for the month of December. What you failed to mention was that the longline category posted 337,207 lbs. dressed weight of swordfish for that same month. I hope that this was not an intended omission. Looks like fishing was good all over. I would think that all of this would be good news, being that we have been told endlessly over the last year about the importance in filling our quota. It troubles me how every time I view this forum that people only seem to care about what happens out front. Swordfish are a HMS ( Highly Migratory Species), not a WOCWHOFS (We Only Care What Happens Out Front Species). I really hope that your intent was not to stir up a hornets nest.

That probably comes from about twenty to thirty boats reporting. Not very good in my opinion. A little over one thousand pounds per boat on average for the best fishing month of the year with mostly fair weather. Most boats probably got in 8 to 10 nights in in Dec. Do the math, not a very good average. Not quite sure what you are trying stir up Ron?

Default Swordfish landings YE 2007 by gear - the bigger picture

Here you go Pushbutton 2. BB-Pro posted the actual links on another thread.... 2007 Fishing Year Swordfish Update

This is a snapshot taken from the NMFS published pdf report. It will certainly show the bigger picture. Well except, where are the reported recreational catches shown anyway? Would they eventually fall into the Incidental - Other column, when the data is released?

I was thinking about the guys that are full time that catch one thousand pounds in a night x 8 to 10 nights = 8 thousand pounds x $5 = FOURTY GRAND + for a month ! not bad in my opinion
but Im sure your gonna say there arn't boats out there killing 10-12 fish in a night.

Thousand lbs per night 8 to 10 times per months? Get real. This month has been really slow from what I've seen. There's that one crazy dude out of PE that has been doing well(still quite a bit under 1000lbs on his good nights), but other than that it's been slow for the buoys. Seems like the rod guys are doing better right now.

DECEMBER is what we were talking about, not this month.

NO ONE CATCHES 1000 LBS. A NIGHT MORE THAN ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR AND MOST HAVE NEVER DONE IT.OCCASSIONALLY 10 TO 12 FISH ARE KILLED BY A BOAT ON AN EXCEPTIONAL NIGHT. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE TOTAL IS TYPICALLY CLOSER TO 500 POUNDS.

Thanks for the info, Ken. I have some spare time on my hands. And I just happen to know where there is a nice 38 Holland for sale. I will probably be able to fish five days a week if i back off on my tooth fairy gig. I might as well supplement my income with an extra 40K. per month. With that money, I will start my own fleet and really give you something to bitch about.

How many thousand pounds did you catch your last trip?

The '70s might have been good fishing and now it's gone, but apparently the drugs you took are not.

So 12 fish / 500 pounds = 41.6 pounds each average fish ?

wow those are some whoppers. Heck even if they were cores, 41 lbers would make me drag up from Stuart and come south to Hillsbourgh.
