I wasn't refering to any month when I called BS on your thousand lbs per night comment. If you know someone putting up 1000lb per night 10 times a month, PLEASE have them get in touch with me because I need to talk to them about how put that many fish in the boat!!!!! I'm serious. Have them PM me or I'll PM you my number so they can call me. Most are lucky to get out that many times a month.
But I know I know... you were doing it back in 70's and I'm a clueless 18 year year old who knows nothing about anything .

wow those are some whoppers. Heck even if they were cores, 41 lbers would make me drag up from Stuart and come south to Hillsbourgh.
Yes that is close to an average core weight. I would guess that over the course of the year, the average buoy caught core weight is somewhere in the low 50s. Therefore 10 fish in the 50 pound range is around 500 pounds give or take a little.

Sounds like the same size fish 98% of the fleet that catches has on a fishable night. Of course one or two boats get lucky and get a good one. According to my books I am not one of the lucky ones.

From what you say Ken you are there too. What do your own numbers show?

Heck Nick it was like a week or so ago, right before you went to the Keys, your buoy partner had like 6 fish in a night for like 750 lbs of cores, He had one like 89 inches and another 90 inches, ring a bell Nick ? not too far off from 1000.

As far as PM's Nick, I dont think so, Your not responsible enough to know what the word private means, even though your 18. I haven't forgotten.

You don't think so? Not sure what you're talking about hoss, but keep on BS'ing..... We all get a laugh out of it.

I believe those were two of the biggest fish he has caught all year.Again, an anomaly, great catch but not typical. One of the boats had 10 fish for 547 pounds recently. Like I said, average in the 50s.

I personally know several guys who have pulled 1000 pound nights a couple of times in the last 60 days. I do not think it is that common but to paint the picture that it is very rare and "we are just putting a few 50 pound cores in the boat" is not accurate. These are guys that do not post here that we are trying to win over to SFC so they can add some more to an already great place.

Again, 1000 pound night is extremely rare.Ask your buddy how many times a year he catches 1000 pounds. A handful of 50ish pound plugs is an average nights catch.Everyone brags about their phenominal catches. No one hears about the skunked or close to being skunked nights. I bet your buddy has been skunked a lot more than he has caught 1000 pounds.

Exclamation So What

What is the difference, if 50 rec boats make 4 trips each a month, so that is 200 trips to the grounds with these 50 boats, and lets say the average take home weight is 150 pounds per trip, that is 30,000 pounds if it was all reported as recreational catches.

Any rec bitching about what the buoy guys are catching needs to look in a mirror first before spouting off that the buoy guys got them all. Hell they do it with fewer boats, eco friendly gear, and little to no by-catch per trip, with an extremely low DD on juvenile fish.

Let see all the pollution from 50 boats, breakaway leads, balloons, rubber bands, and all the other trash that ends up in the water is actually sick, the by catch, juvenile mud darts. If it were to come down to the environmental impact, looks to me like the rec’s should be kicked off the grounds before the commercial guys.

Exactly. A couple times in the hottest time of the year. Not 10 times a month. So Several guys(3 or 4) in the past 2 months(60 days) caught 1000lbs(I'm sure we could give or take a 100lbs or so) TWICE(a couple=TWO). That's a one "Thousand lb" night a month in the hottest time of the year.
Doesn't seem all that stunning to me . But again, I wasn't around back in da 70's with kenny where they hung laterns over the side for hydro glows and used light sticks instead of LP's and caught their own squid which were 500-700 gram monsters!
