We went 6 for 10 and killed 3 total for the night. Plugs weighed 86, 63, 35. The "bite" was over at 8 when the wind went west, by which time we had our 63 in the boat. I had a feeling it was gonna suck with that low that went through. I was hoping that the wind was going to swing back around after the low passed, so I decided to stick it out. It didn't look like it was gonna happen, but, just when I was losing all hope, wouldn't you know it... With the moon right over head, sometime a little after 3am, it started to swing around a little out of the NNE. Thats when they decided to chew. What did not help is that all the fish that came unglued were all markers. It doesn't help either when all the fish fight like total cracked out a$$holes. All the fish went totally nuts. They would all go off on screaming runs ripping leader off the deck only to turn right around and come racing back to the boat. We couldn't stay tight on them and most of them went airborne. One even came close to jumping into the boat. The wildest thing I have ever seen however, was the fight the 86 gave us during the end game. This fish went buck ass wild and the true fight didn't start till after I stuck it with a perfect dart shot though both gill plates. We then stuck her with the gaff only to have her somehow twist herself off the gaff. No problem, we pull her back on the leader and the dart line, now having 2 gaffs ready......Okay let's try this again. We get her back and sink both gaffs. Holy crap, I almost can not believe what happened next.....Apparantly she was only mildly annoyed with us from the first dart and gaff shot. NOW, we hit her with 2 gaffs and really piss her off. Its hard to explain this here but what happened next was something for the record books. The fish basically starts tailwalking next to the boat and starts to twist her body while thrashing around so vilolently that she somehow managed to twist off of both gaffs....AND....AND.......Get this! By twisting like she did, she manages to somehow, unclip the cable part of the dart line from the actual rope. I cannot believe what is happening. The fish is now only attached to us via the leader and she is basically tailwalking around the back port corner area of the boat and slashing around like crazy. She then proceeds to wrap the leader around the prop of my port motor which I trim up while fighting fish. In the process the fish is slashing at the motor SO hard that it's splintering its bill. I'm like WTF is going on here! This fish should be done by now! Somehow she gets herself and the leader free of the motor and all off a sudden she's ripping the leader off the deck again. At this point my friend and I are just looking at each other in disbelief. I'm thinking to myself that somebody must have thrown some crack over the side that this fish must have ended up eating. I've seen some fish go what I thought was nuts at the end, but this fish was taking the "fight or flight" reaction to a whole 'nother level. Keep in mind that this fish was bleeding profusely from the time I hit her with the dart. Now I'm pissed, thinking that the cable and dart were surely going to fall out, and that were surely gonna lose her because I'm wondering what kind of damage the leader has sustained through this death match. We start leadering her back to the boat with this tangled, mangled spaghetti mess of a leader. Even after all the damage this fish sustained, the massive blood loss, and the energy it had been expending, this damn fish was STILL managing to put up resistance on the leader. Of course, we weren't trying to horse her in either because we were hoping the dart didn't fall out of her, and were weren't at all sure what kind of damage the line sustained in all this. Slowly but surely we get her back to the boat and sink both gaffs for a final time. For safetys sake I usually cut the fishes bill off while they're still in the water, but in this case I opted to just yank this demon sword over the side. Of course, as I expected, the instant she hits the deck she starts slashing around. My friend then jumps on her and pins her down while I grab my trusty screwdriver and start stabbing her in the brain all the while yelling "Die bitch, I'm OJ'ing your ass!" Now it was my turn to be pissed and after whaling away on her like this for what was probably way too long, and turning her head into swiss cheese, I finally managed to do her in.
Best of all nobody got hurt and I still had my dart.

Ollie,

Thanks for sharing that wild Bertha story; that's cool !

So the fish are there, but is it when the bite is, that matters?

Thought that these girls were around the bend by now. Do you think that they are being very hormonal?
