Default Daiwa MP3000

I like the assist option the Daiwa MP3000 offers. My worry is that it only packs 1,500ft of 120lb braid. If you were dropping for swords youd pretty much be outta line from the gate.

Im sure its an amazing reel for regular deep drops but when your dropping $3,000 it better cover whatever itch i plan to scratch that day.

Does anyone have any personal experience with it?

Tightlines

That says you can fish down 1500ft not 1500ft of line.

Yes, yards. 4,500 feet of line. Actually, you should be using 100# braid to cut the water better, so you'll actually have closer to 4,800ft of line capacity. The good part is that it's MSRP is $300 less than an LP S-1200, and can usually be purchased near $2700.

You can ignore Daiwa's suggested fishing depth. They claim the TB1000 is good for up to 1,100ft deep. That's being conservative. With 900yds of 80# spectra, I had no problem sending it down to 1700ft, and it has capacity for a few hundred more. The MP3000 can certainly fish 2,000ft or more.

She will hold plenty of line. I believe the issue with the reel is pulling power. I'm seriously in the market for either the diawa MP3000 or the LP 1200 and have been talking to people with both. One MP3000 owner told me he didn't think it was up to the job of pulling big groupers. He has caught big daytime swords with it, but switches over to the manual mode as soon as he comes tight. I'd hate to make a $3000 mistake. I haven't had any negative feedback about the LP. I'm all ears though.

Gotta get one of these. 12v no belts of fuses. I guarantee there is nothing on the market that can stop this thing. Dead lifts close to 80 lbs before I stop it. No rod to worry about. Has 2000yds of 150 with space left over.
Not the fastest reel, but with speed you lose power.

Plus you can get new ones like it for around $900.

Ask BBPro, Purple Fever they too have hoisted up 300 lb + with the same reel.
For $600 I will include 1800 Yards of spectra an extra $250 value for $100

Forgot about CaptKen's reel if I was in the Market I'd jump all over that thing. Thats an awesome price on a nice reel. Don't forget the LP is tried and true. Its a proven fish killer.

i own an MP 3000. Pulling power is not a problem at all. As a matter of fact LP tested one and found it to have 50 lbs. of consistant drag for a good amount of time w/o overheating at all. LP's dont do much better. We have caught no swords over 170 lbs on it yet - but we have snagged bottom (LOL)and the reel had a ton of pressure before it stalled. I believe Vinnie Montella has started to use an MP3000 also......just for your info.....

I have switched over to the Daiwa reels, they have plenty of power and hold more than enough line.

Max pull full spool 80+ lbs.

Max pull from the core 128 lbs.

It did shut itself down with full drag during those tests after a minute or 2, it gives plenty of beeps before that happens. I have not experienced it shutting down while fishing even when snagged to the bottom (broke the braid in a guide).

We reduced the drag at full power to see where it would run consistantly and came up with 50 lbs of drag @ 30 amps., keep in mind that the reel had been under L/P torture for 30 minutes prior. It possibly could do more from a cold start.

I loaded 2000 yards of 130# Diamond Braid on it. The reel is a bit slower than an L/P with a Tiagra or International, but plenty fast enough with a slob on the other end.

The drag system is 100% and any idiot can use the reel. Level wind and auto-stop make walking away from the reel possible (not recommended).

I have 3 of the same reels that Ken is selling, they are proven fish catchers and the price is right. They are awesome grouper/snapper reels and perfect for wahoo trolling.

There is no such thing as a better electric reel than an L/P, but the Daiwa offers features like manual retrieve and jigging modes that the new L/P does not have and is way better looking than anything on the market if your into shiny stuff.

Both reels are back ordered about 100 units, so Ken's reel may be the only game in town for a while unless you know somebody.

i have had a chance to use one lately and it is awesome
i would double check your specs on the capacity the one i used was loaded up with 100# and i had no problem dropping 2400'
as far as i can tell this is a great reel

If you have not had a bite by the time the Daiwa spool is empty, then it's time to pickup and move.

Unless you plan to float a shipwreck with it, there is nothing bad to say about the MP3000.
