Default 12/1/07 Swordfish Satellite Tagging in the daytime: Boca Raton

Fished with Capt. Kevin, his sons Zack and Max, their friend Michael, Dave Kerstetter and Derke Snodgrass aboard the the Skirt Chaser yesterday to try to put a satellite tag out on a daytime fish.

The seas were choppy but manageable and we quickly hooked our first fish with Michael working the rod. It looked like a pretty good fish and was peeling line off the 130, however, the hook quickly pulled. Set up on the same drift, and hooked up again. We got the fish to the boat, and Zack grabs the leader as we get ready to tag the fish. All of a sudden, we notice the snap swivel is open and bent and the leader pops out of the swivel and Zach is left holding the leader to the fish. Realizing the fish could run at any time, we quickly got the tag in the fish as Zack quickly grabbed hold of the bill. We got the hook out and released the fish, which we estimated at around 72" and about 160lbs.

Made one more drop, and hooked up again but the hook pulled.

Ended the day at around 2:30pm going 1/3 and successfully tagging a daytime swordfish. A huge thanks to Kevin, Zack, Max, Michael, Dave and Derke for yet another successful tagging trip!!!

In the mayhem, I didn't get any pictures with my digital camera, but Max got some on a still camera which I will post when they get developed.

It was a good day of dropping. We had 3 bites caught 1. The first fish was the best. Too bad we pulled the hook. I think it is important that we find out what these fish are doing, to see if they stay here or are they moving. If these fish are residents then we could be hurting ourselves. I was glad to fish those guys, and my Kids had a great time as well. My crew was 16, 14 and 10 yrs old, and they were great.

Kevin,
I was out that day with Heiny - we were 0-1 and came in because he wouldnt stop bitching......I think you need to get ahold of your cousin, his priorities are all backwards.....I am beginning to understand why he got married and got a poodle. Nice job on the fish, we were outside of you by a couple miles I think....

Johnny

Johnny you see me out there. THere were not too many boats around me also it was a little bit snotty, and the tide was hauling a-s. It was close to 4 knots where I was.

I think we passed you on the way out, or at least some smaller sporty, but we had no clue you were out there. If it was you we went out another 4 miles and to the North from where you were set up, we were definitely alone and between the current and the wind it was a little painful......my boat it is only 23'.....I got wacked on our third drift and got tight for a second but that was it.......I suck. You have PM.
