Sure hope the wind lays down. That will be the only thing keeping us from coming to this event. Same thing happened earlier this year. We came and sat on our friends couch for 3 days before Drew called the tournament off and rescheduled a date we couldn't make. 3000 miles is a little too far to come to just hang out.

Thanks for Drew and Tracey for a great capt's party!! It was great to
see everyone in such good spirits. Capt Mark you are the man; giving back
that sleek poon harpoon to the raffle. As always it was good talking to you
and I can't wait to try out your new frozen mackerals tonight. Capt Tony
game through with the shirts so I'll be fishing team Second Chance but I
would like to thank teams Reel Life, Nauti Girl, and Joe's Addiction for
their kind offers; I hope to see all of you in the winner's circle.

I wish everyone tight lines and safe boating tonight. There will be a couple
of eddies streaming through swordfish alley tonight so watch for those
1-2 degree temperature changes and the changing flow. cheers, arthur

Well unfortunately not much to report for the "CPR". We had a few slashed baits, lost 1 descent fish after a short fight. We did miss the captains meeting for a practice run with the crew. Went 1 for 2 with a 50" fish. This was our first tourney and we will be BACK! Thanks for the comedy on the radio it helped pass some time even though it bothered some..

Oh no... Don't encourage 'em!

The bite was weak. I know of several skunked teams that are usually in the money. It think "luck" was the best bait last night.

We ended up being the 2nd luckiest team that night. Lots of drama, a late start, a 20 mile run to make the weigh-in with an overheating engine. Making the top 5 on a tough night... well worth the effort for our first tourney on the new boat.

btw... SwordSlasher dropped off the first batch of gaffs before the tourney. They are really nice and hold up great to a greenish fish. If anyone needs to see these heavy duty gaffs ... contact me

WTG Rumblefish, Tek, Loyal Blue and the the other winners! Good to see some friends in the winners circle. We were 0-0 but had a fat 68-70" fish follow a bait up to the light as I pulled the bait out of the water... she made one pass by the bait when i dropped it back then swam off and ate one of Tek's baits

And Thanks Drew and Tracy for all the BS and hard work you two put into this. Time to chill out now

A little bumpy out there with a solid 3-5' chop with 3-4 sec period. We
had a hr of 5-6' before the wind shifted eastward. I started the night
off by going for an unintentional swim at the bait balls in full foul weather
gear. The speedos (and ballyhoos) were thick at the balls and we filled up with bait and we went offshore with Capt Tony at the wheel of Second Chance.
We started about 6 miles S of the port just inshore of the 48. Turtle brought
some of the biggest squid I've ever seen and we put out our spread. After
a couple of hrs we get one on the far jug at 75' or so on one of my
sex on the 50 line rigs. Even with the drag locked down the reel was screaming. Unfortunately the fish didn't stay on and we had to put it
all out again. Another squid bait, I think at 150', was hit a couple of miles
north of the port. We got all the lines in and 3 other squids were whacked.
Chris and then Ron puts the heat on the fish. Chris grabs the bill and throws
a 56", 71 lb fish into the boat and we jump on it. As it turns out it was probably a very good thing that we didn't gaff the fish since we won fifth place by .8 lbs=12.8 oz= weight of one can of beer, beating out by buddies Ray, Silvie, Doyle, and Marc fishing on Reel Life. After all that action we reset and drifted over the same area again but the bite went cold. We rocked out the rest of the night trying to get another fishing the tip rod to depths of
600-700' but no more bites. It seems the bigger fish were caught north
of hillsboro and off of PB county. A couple of buoy guys told me that the
bite went on fire at 4 AM!?! That's fishing. Congratulations to all the winners. A big thanks to Drew and Tracey for putting on another great tournament.
cheers, arthur
