My friend....
That is an admiral thing to do. This story and Islandshark's story leave me speechless. If you would like, you are free to use the Jurassic Drift tournament, website, format, etc. in any way you would like to put together that tournament. We will make any changes you would like and will donate 100% of the money to the family. Let me know if there is anything we can do to help. Johnny |

I am in. Make sure when you put it together that you allow for people that have a conflict or can not fish to be able to make a $100 donation or whatever amount they can.
If you want any help I will be glad to assist in any way I can. This is truly one of the worst story's I have heard of in quite a while. God Bless the victims. Ben

Maybe make it a multi-inlet tournament so more guys can fish and contribute? I'd imagine there would be a huge response from Miami but I'm not sure some of the Broward or Palm Beach guys would travel that far, even if it is for a good cause. Maybe make it a Palm Beach Inlet, Hillsboro or Pt. Everglades, and Joe Cool's home port?

I agree, I have also heard that the family has the resources to cover the children. I still think that the charter fleet and recreational community should step up in some way. Whether as originally intended for the benefit of those children or possible to donate "in the name of" the crew, the vessel, and the family.
I am sure some of the charter operations in South Florida may have some suggestions on where they would like to see regulations/background checks or some program initiated so that instances like this can be prevented in the future. The sad truth of the matter is, that no matter how careful a captain might be, how much protection they carry or how prepared they are .......there is little one can do once a situation like this is presented or to prevent such a situation from occurring without affecting their livelihood as the business is a tough one to survive in. I would like to help in any way to set something up.....whether its a charity dinner at the IGFA, a swordfish tournament with a donative format or something along those lines. There are a great many fishing related businesses and charter operations that will step up to support. The South Florida community should take a look at the fine examples set forth by the charter operations in Lousiana. The operations out of that area are constantly making efforts to benefit those in need or help out their friends. If every charter operation stepped up and donated just one day to an auction...... |
