Hey Guys...just wanted to get the word started that RJ Boyle is putting on a DAYTIME SWORD TOURNAMENT on Saturday, September 22. RJ is still ironing out some of the details, so the official information including rules will be up first thing tomorrow.

Sunburned Swordfish - Saturday September 22.
Time: Noon to 7pm
Entry: $250
Can weigh two fish. Heaviest total weight of combined two fish wins.
Global Fish Mounts is offering a $1000 prize to the team with the most releases and a mount to the winning overall team.

At the Southeast Swordfish Club Meeting on Wednesday, September 19, the topic of discussion will be daytime swordfishing, and RJ will be presenting a clinic on "How-To". You can register for the tournament there or in RJ's shop.

This should be a really fun tournament, and hopefully, we can all learn a lot about this daytime swording. I really look forward to sharing and learning new tactics. Catching one of these suckers during the day and having it jump and shake it out is AWESOME!!!

RJ will run the committee boat out of Hillsboro inlet and will also be fishing, but not as a tournament participant.

I'm pretty sure that braids are IGFA legal, because braided backing is legal. But I hope they allow electrics, 7 hours of hand cranking deep baits is going to require some serious stamina.

just fish it how we do the deep drop tournament here - IGFA rules are ignored. Does not mean an angler can not fish under those rules though (in case he wants to or wants to submit a record if he gets one)

That is good to hear, as RJ Boyle in addition to Bill Collector he may have a slight advantage over the rest of the gang that would like to participate.

The presentation of " ' Zen and the art of ' Catching Swordfish in the Daytime" sounds like a great and timely subject to discuss at the next Swordfish Club meeting.

One suggestion: Could it be possible that there could be a PSAT tag or two available to tag a fish or so? If so, hopefully the rules could be adjusted to compensate such that a tagged fish could still count towards combined weight, perhaps a LJFL with a predetermined estimated weight defined in the rules. ie. show a measurement 60, 62, 64, 66, 68, 70 with a listed weight to substitute.

Going the extra step could enable a PSAT tag to be applied to the bottom huggers, just in case there may be any behavioral differences from those that are caught and tagged higher up in the water column.

Hey Max'ed out, I think somebody is speaking your same language. Now you can have your friendly neighborhood inter-county competition, just like you were asking for. Would you like to attend the next Swordfish Club meeting? (Maybe, you can teach us a trick or two, since you have already been there, done that, succesfully that is. )

I was planning to do a day drop that day already. I'm interested. Keep us posted on the details.

Braided lines are infact legal. FINS and Jerry Brown both offer IGFA rated spectra lines in various sizes.

Funny how this tourney is sponsored by Hi-Liner commercial fishing gear.

Hi-Liner sells an awful lot of gear (indirectly) that ends up in the hands of rec fishermen
