Wtg guys!
Ill be the first to say thank to Tracy and Drew for dealing with everybody and putting on such a wonderful event. It is important that we have these events where everybody comes together. The more personal of a level everybody is on, both recs and the bouy guys, the less bs to take place on the radio and the internet. While 1st place is a classic picture, the 3rd place picture is what it is all about..... Congrats again to team 2nd chance! Oh chit.....way to go Mike on the Quetzel just noticed that was you Thanks again Drew and Tracy for all your hardwork, hopefully the next one doesnt fall the day before a final. Another Grand. Your remark about the 3rd picture is exactly on target. Only through conservation can we assure that this very precious resource will be here for our future generations.....

Congrats to everyone again. Looking forward to the next tourney too.
I think we can all be very proud of south Florida's swordfish community. There are lots of good people. Turtle is on fire. J (Team Fintastic) |

Thank you for all off the compliments it nice when everything comes together. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE THAT HELPED IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER MAKE THIS THE BEST EVENT WE HAVE HELD. The lack of BS on the radio was a welcomed surprise for not just me but those that had children on board. Looking forward to the Winter event.

Thanks Drew and Tracey for putting together such a great event. What a night for Team 2nd Chance. The fish ate a squid down 200' on a 50. Ryan put it on him and got him to the boat in 2 hours. Teamwork won this tournament for sure. It was a night that I will never forget. Congrats to all the winners. After last years 5 1/2 hr battle only to loose the fish in the Sailclub tourney, I was so happy to see Professor and Tony get there revenge!

a big thanks to tracy and drew for a real good time; your tournament
was top notch and i appreciate all the time and good energy put into it. as always, it was great seeing old friends and meeting new ones. i don't fish many tournaments, just a few a year, but when tony asked me to fish with him and turtle, i just could not say no. it was a real pleasure to fish with them and ryan and mike. our planned lady angler had a real good excuse to miss this one, so turtle brought along his friends and i am glad he did. we picked up a few runners at the balls and off we went. we set up and you could not see one boat around us at 7:15 or so. within minutes we had dolphins (the mammal) skyrocketing around us and putting on quite a display and with a nice sunset, we all commented on that life was good. after that, the water was really dead and we drifted for a couple of hrs with no results. still no one around us but as it became dark we could start seeing the fleet. so we decided to move and set up in the middle of the alley (and of the fleet) and tony stopped in an open spot. we put out our 6 rods and within minutes, one started to scream and the fun began. we cleared all the gear quickly and ryan was put on the fish. i have fished with a lot of people, ryan can reel with the best of them. after about an hr, we suggested a break, but he didn't want to give up. so i reminded how much was on the line and promised him that he would get the rod back to finish the job. i and then chris fought the fish for the next 1/2 hr or so and a black magic belt was properly put on ryan and he was back on the fish. we all knew that this fish was going to make it to the scales at this point if we could get it into the boat for a boat ride home. everytime ryan would make it to the 175' mark on the line, that momma swordie would just take it all back and then some. during this entire fight the reel was slipping in its seat to the left and this added to ryan's fight. turtle finally was able to grab hold of the long leader and when he tried to yank momma in, that swordie was so pissed we watched a couple hundreds of yards of line peel off in seconds, but ryan was not going to let this fish win. after 2 hrs and 20 minutes turtle was able to leader it in and tony hit it with the poon and I hit it with a gaff and a tail rope. the swordie made it into the boat after 15 minutes of us pulling on two lines with mike leading the charge. the celebration started and some of you probably heard it!! the fish hit a medium-sized, dyed squid at 175' (we were also fishing a runner at 175' closer to the boat). it was the only line that didn't have an electralume and blinkie on it, just a cylume (red i think for what it is worth). we were using capt mark's chum, like always. out of time. cheers, arthur |

The price of Red Cyalume sticks just went up.
Great work guys.We tried a few different tactics (including trolling), but could not get anything to bite. Just watch, we'll probably get a 338# fish on a Wednesday, or something like that. ![]() Oh yeah... and that was one of the few nights that we didn't feel like turning the VHF off. I'm glad most refrained from the usual vulgar chatter. Last edited by Uncle Buck : 06-25-2007 at 10:12 AM. |
