LL'ers have to us gov. issue circle hooks if I'm not mistaken and they have no problem getting fish to the boat. Circle hooks do work. One just needs to know how to fish them.

Thats a good idea UB. No sense wasting a fish, it just will not count for the tournament if it's not tagged and released.

I'm in for full release. Circle hooks only. Sounds good. The turnout could be huge!

Spice it up even more, Make it a artificial lure only tournament as well.

Would this possibly be a good tournament to be done through the South East Swordfish Club? Seems like it could be done through the club with a comittee and raise a little dough at the same time (not to mention more positive press). I just mailed a check yesterday to join the club so you guys would have to chime in on this one. I have been part of our Sport Fishing Club up our way my whole life and have helped with quite a few tournaments. It's nice to back a tournament through a well established club, and I think a tournament like this would give it even greater credibility when lobbying for recreational swordfishing. Just an idea.

The SESC has asked me to organize the clubs tournaments having experience in such events. The event is in the works and I have a meeting to finalize rules and structure. Anyone that would like to volunteer can IM me. We should have info concerning dates and rules by next SESC meeting. The problem with having a tournament out of 4-5 inlets with no committee boat to take catch reports causes problem for boats that may have multiple releases. There could be a time discrepancy that could be disputed. There would be no way to determine a winner.

Maybe find 3 or 4 committe boats, station them to where you have one guy south off miami, one guy around Boca, one guy off west palm. Then determined by the inlet you run out of, you have a certain boat you must communicate with? I'll volunteer if needed I'm sure there is a way. Really all the guys fishing from Boca to haulover usually can communicate like they do most tourneys. So really you just need a few boats north.

Drew,

You guys were already planning a tournament along these lines? If so it should be great.
I like FlatsfishB's idea on having a couple committe boats. You would have a big tournament on your hands by doing this and a lot of fish getting tagged in different areas.

I know a lot of people that wanted to fish your tournaments from up here Drew, but a lot of them didn't want to make the trip down that far (except us because we like to travel over 100 miles to get our asses whipped ). Most of you guys can communicate down there and if there was another boat off of Jupiter he could comunicate with the guys in the Palm Beach and Stuart area.
