Default SFC tournament

SFC HOLIDAY SWORDFISHING TOURNAMENT!
1. For all who are interested, what would be the best day weather permitting between December 19th and 26th?
2. No boundries. Honor system? Photo of fish and weight on scale with date on photo....something to that extent.
3. Let's get some input, figure out details (money, time, etc.) and make it happen.

Default Honor system, sound dubious?, prop.ed by a Pirate, good call

Hey Pat:

You're getting into the So. Fla. holiday spirit mighty fine. Sounds like you are very highly motivated about a tournament. Are you, in any way trying to figure out a way, to outperform some local fishing professionals? (Or just not acceptable to be called "girly" in any way, shape, or form: Hell you're "a superior ATHLETE", go ahead and make my day. Rattle those swords: it could be fun!

That's the spirit, or the ticket. Hey, but you know that I want to fish with you at least once since we make a complimentary team, but in the same boat.

But if that cannot happen, on a particular day, say there should be an SFC tournament that day, it would be nice to enable any rogue elements to participate just the same.

I hope to get out fishing 3 times during the holiday. Once with Team FinalPoint, once with Team Moppyman and hopefully once, just for giggles, on Pirate Ship PorgeeRock: we should have the rite crew aboard. You see, with so many dates and a looming tournament, just where will a team player reside on the fianlized tournament date.

I suggested if an SFC tournament should "par-take-of the Glug" that there should be a percentage donation. (I sugg. 10%), toward the tagging of a selected swordfish. Hopefully nobody will harvest this fish, should it be caught by rod&reel, & by harpoons if you can at all see.

Wow, this may be an interesting holiday. RT

The problem with a week long tourney is that some people will get out more than once. Also, there are many varying conditions. We'll figure something out...

Lota-bull from Team Bullfighter signing on. We'll be ready any day after the 15th. Problem dates: Lota-bull 30th wedding anniversery is the 21st with my 48th birthday on the 22nd. (Anyone sending gifts can PM me for my address  ) and of course Christmas eve and day could be tricky. If the tournament has to be on any of these days so be it, we'll still make it happen. But the 19th gets our vote.

As Bullfighter said on his thread "Too Long," We're going to hit it hard. We'll have room on any given trip for a swordfishing central fellow angler as our guest. Particularly anybody returning for the break after finals.

First place can be as simple as bragging rights (PRICELESS \/ ). Also I like the idea of a percentage if not all the $ going for the satilite tracking tag. For example, each participating boat "donates" $100.00 and the tournament winner gets to name the tagged fish for prosperity. (is that to corny? ops

OK. So let's see if we can set it straight (kind of):

SFC HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT: What's on your wish list?

When: December 19, 2004 (weigh-in can be on the 20th)
Where: Any place you can catch a swordfish
Entry Fee: To be decided (probably between $50 and $100)
Rewards: To be decided (maybe 1st place: 50%, 2nd place 25%, 3rd place 15%, and 10% to SFC tagging operation, name of tag goes to winner)

Please post other ideas on this thread.

PS-maybe I'll go to Bonefish on Saturday night for dinner. If anyone who is fishing this tournament wants to join, send me a pm or an email to pquinn@fas.harvard.edu .

For now, Sunday night can be the night. If some people who want to participate have problems with that, you can fish through the next Saturday, but you must post your intended date on the forum. Only one night can count towards the tournament, so if you cannot go on Sunday, choose another day by posting it on the forum, and you must post a report the day after.

Entry fee is $100. 50% will go to first place, and 25% will go to second. The remaining 25% will go to SFC tagging. If we find a way to collect money before (which we should), it will be much easier. If you are not able to fish on any night, but have already entered the tournament, you can be refunded the 75% of your entry fee while the othe 25% will still go to tagging. Donations above to $100 entry are obviously welcome.

Bad news for me. Sunday night is out of the picture for me because my family is having a boat parade party. I guess I will choose Monday instead.

Having a 3 to 5 day tournament sounds best Pat. The seas are going to be kicking up this week, so hopefully they will die down by the time we are ready to fish!

I'll be at lighthouse point marina with a camera. Catch em up!

This is coming together. We should be out with an entry form tomorrow or the next day at the latest. If you want to fish this, please enter (mail in a printed form with entry fee to assigned location) as soon as possible (like as soon as the form comes out) so that the totals can be calculated and we can have good organization. The entry form will involve the intended day of fishing for your team so think about which day you want to fish between this Sunday and next Saturday. Rules will be coming out shortly. If we have 15 boats, the winner will be looking at $1500, that simple (plus some new SFC t-shirts). "The more, the merrier."
Note: this tournament is completely non-profit and is more like a friendly bet among a bunch of crazy swordfishermen.
