I just read an article that mentioned The Bahamas Swordfish Championship to take place at Old Bahama Bay, West End Grand Bahama, July 26th – 29th, 2007.
"Since the Atlantic Longline Ban of 2001, swordfish populations have had an extraordinary rebound. Incredible catches are being reported all along the Gulf Stream, particularly the waters off of West End. The Bahamas Swordfish Championship will pit some of the best big-game fishing teams against one another as they compete for the title and the Championship Trophy; and let’s not forget the $20,000 in cash prize money. The anglers hit the high seas July 26th though 29th, 2007." Would love to put a team together! John |

Predator,
Have you found em yet? I'll come fish it w/ ya, but it sounds like we need to do some serious prefishing. I bet Vinny knows where they are in your neck o the woods.

No problem for the prefishing. It would be interesting, think alot of the boats would cross back over the GS and fish the waters they know. Depending on the rules and time allowed.
Can't wait, it will be fun to try somethinf new over here. John |

The Swordfish Tournament is definetly on!!!! Old Bahama Bay July 26th to the 29th. Spoke to Tony who just organized both legs of the Bahamas Wahoo Challange and he will also be organizing the Swordfish Tourney. You should start to hear more about it shortly.
But with $20,000 in prize money, before the calcutta, makes it very attactive. Look forward to putting a winning team together. |

Wondering if the tournament will allow boats to fish US waters, and if they don't will be interesting to see what is caught. Anxiously awaiting rules and entry form, have crew ready to roll.

Drew,
From what little i know, we will not be able to run back to state waters to fish. This is not confirmed as of now, but i will find out in the next day or so. Tony is putting on the tourney, i am just waiting for a call back from him. Either way the tourney should be a great time, there are definetly fish around west end

I wish Tony held swordfish tournaments over here...nobody can stand up to him....nobody. Interesting about that tournament...if I get the new sled by then, I'm in.

Hey guys, I just got an email from Tony regarding this event because I was concerned with the dates conflicting with the Jurassic Drift as we were unaware of the tournament. This tournament is a no go for the present time, a later date is trying to be determined but at the current time it is a no go.
Tony is a class act, and has helped us out with our tournament a great deal. I hope he does put one together over there sometime in the future. Johnny |
