Default Finest Kind Sword Tournament

1st Annual Finest Kind Swordfishing Tournament was held on Saturday Night Oct. 4 (lines in @ 7:30pm lines out 7:00am). 27 boats total. Drift/fishing boundaries were from Boynton Beach Inlet to Fort Pierce Inlet - most of the fish caught were outside of 1500' between Lake Worth and Hobe Sound. I believe 14 fish were hooked and 8 released/4 killed.

It was a good night considering the weather forecast. Our boat, the Conchy Cat, did not hook up or even get a bite in the 12.5 hours of fishing. Unfortunately we fished inside 1500' and other boats who did so had the same result, 0 fish.

Swordfishing in the Palm Beaches has been consistently better over the last two years however, since the bottom lack contour and sophisticated bottom structure, our fishing is incomparable to that of Broward, Dade and Monroe counties.

This is my first post and looking forward to more as I consistently fish here n Stuart Florida for Swordfish during this time of the year.

Thanks for the report fishdaddy. The swordfishing has slowed down very much within the last month. But from my logs and other captains logs, October heats up dramatically. Dean panos reported going 9 for 15 this time last year and several nights similar to it during october. Lets hold in there and catch em up!

Hey guys,

We went out saturday night and sunday night. It was a little choppy with a north wind. Made the drift alittle bit not to our liking. I believe we were only getting about 3 knots out of the drift.

On saturday night we went 0 for 2 of which we were tight on one right off PE everglades for over 45 minutes. We had 12 lbs of drag applied so we know it was a big fish and the hoooks eventually pulled. We never even saw the electralume.

On Sunday night, we fished 2 squids and 2 live baits, and went 1 for 1. The hit didnt come until we were ready to leave. It was a 48 inch fish, which we released. As mike said I think it will be picking up once the current picks up in this month. I also remember October being fantasic for swordfishing.

I'll be out once the seas calm down this week.

Good Luck to all

Cool. I was out on Friday night and went 0 for 1. tight on the fish for only about 2 minutes. Felt pretty big, but who knows. We caught him on a squid at 300 feet.

I didn't hear of the tournament, but I'm looking to enter one that is not that expensive.. maybe 300 dollars per boat. Anyone know of any good tourneys coming up.

I hope you guys are right about October heating up!!!!!!! It has been so slow and gas prices are getting any cheaper!!!

Keep em tight...

Default Mako Madness

Fished Saturday night in front of PE and came up with a 300 + Mako Shark. Fought for 2 hours just like a Sword, hit the tip rod at 60 feet with a 3 pound runner, caught in the corner of his jaw. The bite was inside the 51.5 No Swordy, but all game!
